摘要: An apparatus for machining a counterbore in a pipe is provided which comprises an expander unit adapted for being secured against the inside surface of a pipe. A shaft extends from the expander unit coaxial with the pipe and a flywheel is rotatably and slidably mounted on the shaft. A pair of parallel guide structures are mounted on the face of the flywheel, and a frame is slidably mounted on the parallel guide structures such that the frame is linearly movable along the guide structures in a radial direction relative to the shaft. A cutting tool is mounted to the frame and has a distal end that is extendable radially beyond the radially outermost point of the frame. A pair of actuators are attached to the frame and to the flywheel such that the actuators can move the frame along the guide structures and force the cutting tool against the inside surface of the pipe during the counterboring procedure.

The Apparatus comprises elements to embody the method.

摘要: A cutter for use in an electrode tip dresser, which has a cutter holder for holding the cutter and dresses an electrode tip for a resistance welding apparatus, has a rising portion which has a cutting tooth for cutting a front peripheral portion of the electrode tip and a flat portion which faces a front end surface of the electrode tip. The flat portion has a single cutting tooth for cutting the front end surface of the electrode tip. The single cutting tooth extends from that central point of the cutter as and origin which coincides with an axis of rotation of the cutter holder towards a predetermined radial direction. An origin portion of the single cutting tooth further extends beyond the central point towards a direction which is opposite to the radial direction.

摘要: A machine for simultaneously turning and boring a ring-shaped workpiece has a frame of four parallel structural shafts secured between end stands. An active spindle assembly is mounted on a carriage slidably mounted on the shafts. The carriage is hydraulically drivable axially toward a stop cylinder of a passive spindle assembly rotatably mounted but axially immovable on one stand, to clamp the workpiece ring between a clamp cylinder of the active spindle assembly and the stop cylinder. The clamp cylinder is rotatable by the main machine drive motor for turning the workpiece. The workpiece ring is introduced laterally to the working area by a loader shuttle. Then the workpiece is centered in the work space by an axially drivable centering crescent as the workpiece is clamped in position between the clamp cylinder and stop cylinder for the turning to commence. Cylindrical slides and slideways are provided at right angles for both radial and axial movement of the external turning tool mounting bar. Cylindrical slides at right angles to each other are also provided for radial and axial movement of a boring bar. The finished workpiece moves into a gage which simultaneously measures the inside diameter with a pyramidal plug, and the outside diameter between a stop and a wedge, the wedge and plug being operated by linear actuators driving rotary encoders providing signals useful in a computer for control of the slide drive screws for automatic adjustment if and as needed in response to measured deviations from a standard.

摘要: The automatic tube processing system and method utilizes an automatic laser inspection system capable of inspecting the face of a tube for defects during the manufacturing process of the tube. The automatic tube processing system and method comprises a light source, such as a laser, positioned near a tube for transmitting light onto the face of the tube. The tube and the light source may be rotated relative to one another to enable the entire face of the tube to be inspected. An electrical receiver for detecting light reflected from the face of the tube is positioned near the light source. The electrical receiver is capable of determining a height differential on the face of the tube and capable of producing an output to be analyzed by a processing means. A monitor displays the output from the processing means in the form of a graph.

摘要: A bearing may consist of one or more components where relative motion can take place between the bearing surface and a mating surface and where the mating surface may be a component of the bearing. Many bearings are circular and may be installed and secured in a housing by swaging an annular outer lip into an annular chamfer of the housing. A tool is provided for facilitating the removal of the bearing. The tool employs one or more cutter teeth which engage the swaged lip of the bearing. Axial force applied to the cutter while it is rotated effectively cuts away the annular lip thereby allowing the bearing to be pressed out of the housing. The cutter may be used in conjunction with other tool components which include (a) a bolt which extends through the center of the circular bearing, (b) centering rings which correctly orient the bolt relative to the annular lip of the bearing, (c) a nut and (d) Belleville washers which are disposed between the nut and the cutter. Tightening of the nut therefore preloads the washers against the cutter which generates the required axial force to effectively facilitate the cutting action on the lip as the cutter is rotated by means of a wrench or the like. A significant feature of the tool relates to the cutter tooth configuration which, along with the centering rings, assures that no contact with the housing by the cutter can take place during bearing removal, thereby avoiding damage to the housing.
