    Abstract: A circuit includes first and second phase windings, a direct current (DC) power supply to convert alternating current (AC) power to DC power, at least one power switch between the first and second phase windings, and a controller to control the at least one power switch. The circuit also includes a component to prevent the DC power supply from collapsing when the at least one power switch is on during a first portion of a cycle and a second component to prevent the DC power supply from collapsing when the at least one power switch is on during a second portion of the cycle.

    Abstract: Disclosed are a motor control device that can accurately estimate a rotor position based on a neutral point potential even when a load increases, and a brake control device that is driven by the motor control device. The motor control device 3 includes a three-phase synchronous motor 4 including a three-phase winding, an inverter 31 connected to the three-phase winding, a control unit 6 for controlling the inverter based on a rotor position of the three-phase synchronous motor, and a rotational position estimation unit 2 for estimating a rotor position θd based on a neutral point potential Vn of the three-phase winding. The rotational position estimation unit estimates a rotor position selectively using one or more of a plurality of detected values of the neutral point potential according to a pre-estimated value of the rotor position and a voltage application state to the three-phase winding.

    Abstract: A thyristor bridge of an electrical converter is connected to at least one DC link and including at least one phase leg for each output phase and each phase leg being composed of two series-connected thyristor arms. The thyristor arms of a thyristor bridge are cyclically switched by: determining an upper bound for a firing angle of a thyristor arm, wherein the upper bound is determined from voltage and current measurements; and determining a firing angle for the thyristor bridge, which firing angle determines a switching time of the thyristor arm, wherein the firing angle is determined, such that it is less or equal to the upper bound.

    Abstract: A current regulator for a motor controller reduces distortion of the current output to a motor. Feedback signals corresponding to the current present on the motor are transformed into a fundamental and a harmonic reference frame. Notch filters in each reference frame attenuate components of the current feedback signal from the other reference frame. Current regulators in each reference frame receive the filtered current feedback signal in the corresponding reference frame and generate an output signal that is used to regulate the output current to the motor to the desired level of current in the corresponding reference frame. The output signal from the regulator in the harmonic reference frame is transformed to the fundamental reference frame, and the output of the two regulators are combined in a common reference frame to generate a reference signal corresponding to the required voltage output to the motor to achieve desired operation.

    Abstract: Technical solutions are described for power management in permanent magnet synchronous machines. An example system includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), and a motor control system that limits supply current and regenerative current of the PMSM. The limiting includes receiving a torque command and generating a corresponding current command for generating an amount of torque based on the torque command. Further, the limiting includes determining an estimated battery current that is drawn corresponding to the current command. Further, in response to the estimated battery current exceeding a threshold, a modified torque command is generated, and a modified current command corresponding to the modified torque command is also generated. The modified current command is used to cause the PMSM to generate the amount of torque.
