Abstract: A method of controlling a dual wound synchronous machine (DWSM) includes: determining virtual current commands based on a current command associated with each of two winding sets of the DWSM; determining virtual half-motor currents by applying a mathematical transformation on measured output currents; determining half-motor difference currents based on differences between the corresponding virtual current command and the virtual half-motor current; calculating forward path voltage commands based on the corresponding difference currents and using first and second gain factors; determining feedback voltage commands by applying third and fourth gain factors to the virtual half-motor currents; determining virtual final voltage commands based on the corresponding forward path and feedback voltage commands; determining final voltage commands by applying a second mathematical transformation to the virtual final voltage commands; commanding, based on the final voltage commands, inverters to apply corresponding voltages to the two winding sets and thereby generating the output currents.

Abstract: Technical solutions are described for disturbance feedforward compensation technique for improving the disturbance rejection properties of a closed loop position control system. According to one or more embodiments, a steering system includes a position controller that generates a torque command based on an input rack-position command and a measured position command. Further, a disturbance estimator that estimates a rack force acting on a rack, and an adder generates an adjusted torque command by adding the rack force that is estimated into the torque command. The steering system further includes an actuator that positions the rack according to the adjusted torque command.

Abstract: A method for detecting an imbalance in a synchronous motor drive, the method including reading an output voltage signal, and extracting a signature of a parameter imbalance from the output voltage signal. The parameter imbalance is in the synchronous motor drive. Responsive to extracting the signature of the parameter imbalance, the method further includes identifying a certain parameter having the parameter imbalance based on an operating condition of a synchronous motor controlled by the synchronous motor drive, and determining at least one phase of the synchronous motor in which the certain parameter is manifesting the parameter imbalance.

Abstract: Technical solutions are described for current sensor fault mitigation for systems with permanent magnet DC drives. An example power steering system includes a brush motor, and a motor control system that generates an amount of torque using the brush motor, the amount of torque corresponding to a torque command. The motor control system includes a current sensor fault detector that detects a current sensor fault associated with a current sensor used to measure a current across the brush motor. The motor control system further includes a velocity observer that computes an estimated motor velocity in response to the current sensor fault. The motor control system further includes a feedforward controller that generates a current command for generating the amount of torque using the brush motor, the current command generated using the estimated motor velocity.
