A valve apparatus for a non-muscular-energy-assisted brake circuit of a hydraulic brake system is disclosed. The apparatus has a restriction valve whose valve body in a controlled manner limits a restriction gap through which a hydraulic fluid is forced in non-muscular-energy-assisted braking operation in order to establish a defined dynamic pressure in a pressure chamber in which a valve plunger having a through-hole is provided. The dynamic pressure can be applied to a tensioner. If the non-muscular-energy assistance fails, the valve plunger can be closed to generate a residual braking pressure in the pressure chamber using the valve body when the through-hole is closed. Since the restriction gap is located at the through-hole, a very compact valve apparatus is created, in which the valve body not only limits the restriction gap but also serves as a sealing closure element for the through-hole and serves to directly control the valve plunger, while the brake pressure in the pressure chamber is present at all times directly at the valve body and therefore can be fed back in a desirable manner to the brake pedal.

The present invention relates to a brake fluid pressure control apparatus provided with a flow valve which, during the normal operation, when a spool is in the stationary position, a master cylinder communication port is communicated with a wheel cylinder communication port while the pump communication port is closed, and during an antiskid control operation, a pump communication port and a wheel cylinder communication port are communicated, as well as a switching device to switch between the first and the second conditions. In the first condition, a master cylinder communication port is communicated with the output fluid passage of the master cylinder while the communication between the pump communication port and the master cylinder communication port is shut off. In the second condition, the communication between the master cylinder communication port and the output fluid passage of the master cylinder is shut off while the pump communication port and the master cylinder communication port are communicated. Therefore, when two functions, antiskid and traction controls, are to be provided to a brake fluid pressure control apparatus having an antiskid control capability, there is no need to change the flow valve itself, in particular the spool, to provide the two functions.

A hydraulic braking system for a towed vehicle provides actuation of the hydraulic pump motor of the towed vehicle responsive to an electrical switch which is closed upon application of the brake pedal of the towing vehicle. However, even after actuation of the hydraulic pump, the towed vehicle brakes are only able to be applied in response to sensed relative movement of the towing and towed vehicle toward each other. A break-away switch sets the trailer brakes in the event of accidental separation of the towed vehicle from the towing vehicle. The control valve may be used in other situations to control a hydraulic pump and associated hydraulic braking system.

An improved hydraulic valve system particularly adapted for use in a hydraulic circuit of an exercise apparatus in order to more quickly equalize the high and low pressure sides of the hydraulic circuit when a load is removed therefrom. The valve system is adapted to allow the high pressure side after the force has ceased to open a relief valve so as to allow the low pressure side and the reservoir to quickly come into equilibrium with the high pressure side. In this fashion, the tendency of the base line pressure to be elevated during repetitive exercises is obviated and accurate exercise data can be accumulated.

In order to minimize the size and strength of brake return springs required, the invention provides a device to be interposed between the brake and the brake control valve. Preferred embodiments of the device include an inlet port communicating with a brake valve and an outlet port communicating fluid pressure to a vehicle brake. A hydraulic brake booster is disclosed which is normally actuated by a primary pressure source, but which may be actuated by a secondary pressure source during failure of the primary pressure source. The booster includes a spool valve which controls communication between the primary pressure source and the booster pressure chamber. The spool valve is actuated by a control pressure which is generated by the vehicle operator when a brake application is effected. The control pressure shifts the spool valve to cause the latter to communicate fluid pressure from the primary pressure source into the pressure chamber. A pressure differential responsive piston is responsive to a pressure differential between the control pressure and the pressure communicated into the booster pressure chamber. When the control pressure exceeds the pressure communicated to the booster pressure chamber by some predetermined amount, the differential pressure responsive piston shifts to actuate a valve mechanism to communicate fluid from the secondary pressure source to the booster pressure chamber. Simultaneously, shifting of the differential pressure responsive piston to actuate the valving mechanism also terminates communication between the spool valve and the booster pressure chamber, so that fluid from the secondary pressure source communicated into the booster pressure chamber may not leak through the spool valve.

The cavity communicates with said control chamber through a one-way valve and by an exhaust passage closed when said input plunger is biased toward said output plunger.
