摘要: A system and method for cutting a workpiece utilizing a plasma cutting tool of fixed cut width into at least two parts having prescribed shapes from a metal plate comprising the steps of: identifying each of the parts by one or more contour lines; cutting a workpiece along one of the identifying contour lines into one of the parts using a tool of fixed cutting width; utilizing this cut contour of fixed width as part of the contour on an adjacent part fully overlapping the cut width. The process is repeated until all the required parts are cut.

摘要: A laser processing method includes a supporting step of attaching an adhesive tape to an annular frame having an opening for accommodating the plate-shaped workpiece and attaching the plate-shaped workpiece to the adhesive tape. The adhesive tape is composed of a base film, an adhesive layer formed on one side of the base film, and a functional layer formed on the other side of the base film. The functional layer includes fine particles of metal oxide, emulsion particles of thermoplastic resin as a binder, and a dispersing medium. The laser processing method further includes a laser processed groove forming step of applying a laser beam from a laser beam applying unit to the plate-shaped workpiece held on the chuck table and relatively feeding the chuck table and the laser beam applying unit by operating a feeding unit, thereby forming the laser processed groove on the plate-shaped workpiece.

摘要: A plasma cutting device performs cutting in a plurality of stages. In a first cutting sub-process, a manufactured product is cut out from a base material upon a stage according to an NC program. Next, images of respective regions in the vicinities of proper positions at two corner points of the manufactured product which has been cut out are photographed by an image sensor, the actual positions of these two corner points of the manufactured product are detected from these images which have been photographed, and the translation distances and the rotational angle between the actual positions which have been detected and the proper positions are calculated. The NC program is corrected. And, in a subsequent cutting sub-process, additional cutting for beveling is carried out upon cutting surfaces at the outer circumference of the manufactured product, according to the corrected NC program.

摘要: A plurality of materials are rolled in an upstream stand. While the transfer speed of a succeeding material and the front end position thereof are detected, the transfer speed and the rear end position of a preceding material are detected by a measuring roll. The transfer speed of the succeeding material is controlled by adjusting at least the drive speed of the pinch rolls so that the front end of the succeeding material contacts the rear end of the preceding material at a specified position in a travelling welder. The rear end of the preceding material is joined with the front end of the succeeding material by flash-butt welding using the travelling welder to form a continuous material while letting the travelling welder move at a speed synchronous with the transfer speed of the continuous material. The welded portion on the continuous material is ground and/or cut to remove burr therefrom. After removing the burr, the continuous material is continuously rolled by a down-stream stand.

摘要: A method and device are shown for manufacturing rotary rock bits. The method eliminates repositioning errors in robotic welding operations by combining a cutting torch and a welding torch on a single, rotatable bracket whereby a bit can be welded at a single station without multiple rechuckings. The quality of the weld tie-in between any two intersecting seams (radial-radial or radial-axial) results where the groove for the latter seam in each pair is cut after the first seam in the pair has been welded.

摘要: A rotary notcher is used in a continuous strip processing line for metallic strip to cut out side or edge portions of the joined strips in the welded area. When an arc welder is used, welding may be done only in the center area of the seam remote from where the notching occurs. The rotary notcher is activated in a time relationship with the welding process to notch along the joined seam. The notcher comprises two opposed housings along longitudinal edges of the strip for cantileverly supporting a cooperative pair of rotatable knife drums each having cooperative arcuate surfaces upon which an arcuate knife is mounted, and cooperative flat sections for allowing the strip to travel therebetween without hitting against the drums. The knife has a continuous gradual slope with a desired depth formed between the two extremes of the edge of the knife to effect a smooth continuous cut.

摘要: An improved rod for a thermal cutting or burning torch, especially suited for underwater use, is shown to have a metallic outer tube sheath containing exothermic fuel elements within the interior of the tube, providing an open region for the passage of gas to the tip of the tube. The tube is electrically insulated along its outer length, save for an exposed open end adapted to be clamped in an electrically conductive gas-providing cutting torch handle. Within the improved rod, each of the fuel elements consists of a generally ferrous composition having one of two types of coatings. In a first embodiment, an element will be coated with a copper cladding to approximately two percent of the overall weight of the element. In the second embodiment, an element will be clad with either aluminum, or one of the aluminum class of metals, to approximately 4.6 percent by weight, the exact percentage being that percentage required for perfect thermite combustion. In use, the rod containing at least one such element is inserted within an electrically-conducting, gas-providing handle. Pure oxygen is provided, pressurized through the length of the rod, driving water out from the rod and providing a positive oxygen flow. A source of electricity is then provided to the rod and is conducted to the open tip of the rod. A closed electrical circuit is provided between the rod and the object to be cut. Upon striking an arc with the rod, a thermite burning reaction is initiated, which continues even when the supply of electricity is terminated. The rod will burn so long as oxygen is provided, providing a particularly hot cutting flame. With fuel elements of the first embodiment, the flame is found to be as effective or more effective than a thermite cutting rod. With fuel element of the second embodiment, the ability to exactly match the proper portions of aluminum or the aluminum class of metals and iron for a thermite reaction is found to produce a more effective and efficient uniform burning rod. In both embodiments, spurious internal burning, resulting from internal electrical ignition effects, is largely eliminated.

摘要: Electron-beam stage X-Y positioning instrumentation is provided. The electron-beam stage has a number of metal blocks affixed to its bottom. Fixed orthogonal noncontact gage heads are used to sense the distance of the heads from the parallel faces of a proximate metal block. The position of the metal block vis-a-vis the position of the fixed referenced gage heads yields the X-Y coordinates of the stage. The stage is first coarsely positioned adjacent a preselected block.Thereafter the exact position of the stage is computed from the distances sensed by the gage heads. The electron beam electronics are automatically adjusted to the actual position of the stage thereby eliminating the relatively slow, fine positioning of the stage.
