Abstract:
Improved techniques for making copy detection patterns and using them to detect copying relationships between digital representations. The techniques include techniques for including a message in a copy detection pattern without altering the copy detection patterns entropy and reading the message, techniques for using a copy detection pattern on an analog form to determine whether the analog form is an original analog form without reference to a digital representation of the original of the analog form's copy detection pattern, techniques for increasing the sensitivity of copy detection using copy detection patterns by modifying one of two copy detection patterns that are being compared to take into account alterations resulting from the copying process, techniques for distributing a copy detection pattern across a document, and techniques for using the entropy of a copy detection pattern to locate the copy detection pattern. Also disclosed are applications of copy detection patterns with copying that involves transformations between the digital and analog forms and with digital-to-digital copying.
Abstract:
The application discloses various methods and systems to provide substitute information or objects for, e.g., substitution when making copies of media objects (e.g., audio, video or images). One method includes: receiving i) an identifier obtained from a steganographic encoding encoded in a media object, and ii) state information associated with the steganographic encoding or associated with the media object; obtaining—from a storage location—a substitute media object corresponding to the identifier; adjusting the substitute media object in accordance with the state information; providing the adjusted, substituted media object. Another method includes: receiving an identifier obtained from a steganographically encoded media object; accessing memory associated with at least a portion of the identifier to obtain an address of a remote data repository, the remote data repository including at least a plurality of substitute media objects corresponding respectively to a plurality of identifiers; forwarding: i) at least a portion of the identifier obtained from the steganographic encoding, and ii) an instruction to the remote data repository at the address, wherein the instruction includes a request to provide a substitute media object corresponding to at least a portion of the identifier obtained from the steganographic encoding. Of course, other methods and combinations are provided as well.
Abstract:
Image plus event information printing system, which comprises an image data inputting means for inputting a datum of original image, an event information database which memorizes the data of current and/or passing events information being sorted with one or more items, wherein one of the items consists of the occurrence time of the event, an event information retrieval means for extracting any event information within a predetermined range being in correlation to the time which is related to the original image, by retrieving from the sorted data in the event information database with using one or more of the items, an image editing means for preparing a datum of an image plus event information, from the datum of original image and the extracted event information, and a printing means for printing the image plus current events information in accordance with the datum prepared by the image editing means.
Abstract:
A digital camera inputs an image capture guide list including at least one of image titles as targets to be recorded, and displays the image title(s) included in the image capture guide list on its display part. User takes a picture or pictures while checking the image title(s) in the image capture guide list.
Abstract:
A facility for initiating a purchase is described. The facility receives a text sequence captured by a user from a rendered document using a handheld text capture device. The facility identifies in the received text sequence a reference to a distinguished product. In response to identifying the reference, the facility presents to the user an opportunity to place an order for the established product. If the user accepts the presented opportunity to order the distinct product, the facility orders the distinct product on behalf of the user.

Abstract:
The process unit includes a drum unit configured to mount an image carrier which carries an electrostatic latent image, onto a casing, a holder cover configured to hold a side surface portion of the drum unit, a developer unit configured to mount a developer roller which develops the electrostatic latent image, onto the casing, a holder cover configured to hold a side surface portion of the developer unit, an aligning device having a recess portion formed in one of the holder covers of the drum unit and the developer unit, and a projecting portion formed on the other holder cover, which fit with the recess portion, and configured to align the drum unit with respect to the developer unit as the recess portion and the projecting portion are fit with each other, and a fixation tool configured to fix the engaged recess portion and projecting portion together.
Abstract:
A system for processing a text capture operation is described. The system receives text captured from a rendered document in the text capture operation. The system also receives supplemental information distinct from the captured text. The system determines an action to perform in response to the text capture operation based upon both the captured text and the supplemental information.
Abstract:
A digital camera includes: an optical system for forming an optical image of a subject; an image pickup unit that converts the formed optical image of the subject and outputs a subject image; and a recording unit that associates the subject image output by the image pickup unit with a layout definition data group and stores the subject image in a nonvolatile memory. The layout definition data group is stored in the nonvolatile memory and is made up of pieces of layout definition data that define a layout to draw a subject image for a drawing medium of a specific size. The pieces of layout definition data making up the layout definition data group with which the subject image is associated defines similar layouts for drawing media of difference sizes.
