This result is based on the additive property of luminance, according to which the luminance of a sign is the sum of the luminance produced by each source of illumination. A basic illumination device (5), an additional illumination device (7), at least one camera for taking images, and image recording, positioning and synchronism systems are required to implement the method.

Subsequent to adding the construction zone and the classification to the detailed map information, the construction object (or another construction object) may be identified. The location of the construction object may be used to identify the construction zone and classification from the detailed map information. The classification of the classification may be used to operate a vehicle having an autonomous mode.

A method and system for calculating an energy efficient route is disclosed. A route calculation application calculates one or more routes from an origin to a destination. For each of the routes, the route calculation application uses impedance factor data associated with each segment in the route. The impedance factor is calculated using probe data when the probe data is available for a road segment. When probe data is unavailable, the impedance factor is calculated using machine learning techniques that analyze the results of the impedance factor classifications for road segments having probe data.

A vision system of a vehicle includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and having a field of view forward of the vehicle. The camera includes a two dimensional imaging array of a plurality of photosensing pixels and is operable to capture image data. A control includes an image processor that is operable to process image data captured by the camera. The image processor, responsive at least in part to processing of captured image data, is operable to determine road signs ahead of the vehicle, and the image processor uses a matrix algorithm for determining road signs along the road and for determining road sign information for displaying to the driver of the vehicle. The road signs may include speed limit signs and the control may, responsive at least in part to a determination of weather conditions, determine the appropriate speed limit to display to the driver.

The fusion unit is configured to perform a Bayesian fusion on the first and second set of probabilities to determine a final speed limit from the discrete set of speed limits.
