Further, the bending method of this invention applies pressure to the front end of the wood material via a braking mechanism to limit its movement in the shaping channel and prevent tension fracture on the stretched side of the curved wood material. Wood material, which is pushed from its aft end and movement limited at its front end, is compressed to control the amount of stretching of the extended outer periphery of the wood material undergoing bending and prevent tension fracture.

    摘要: A method for treatment of one or more wood elements by pressurization comprises the steps embedding the wood elements into a pressure medium, of increasing the pressure in the pressure medium, whereby the wood element is compressed by transmitting the pressure via the pressure medium to the wood elements, and of reducing the pressure in the pressure medium, whereby the wood element is relieved. During the treatment, liquid present in the wood elements is driven out therefrom. The pressure medium comprises a plurality of solid bodies with intermediate spaces. The solid bodies transmit the pressure to the wood elements such that a pressure difference arises between the wood elements and said spaces, which pressure difference drives out the liquid. During the relief phase, the wood elements substantially resume their original shape. The method can also be used for introducing impregnating liquid into the wood elements after the liquid expulsion.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for joining two pieces of wood veneer with square cut edges by a lap joint with a pre-determined thickness not greater than the thickness of a single piece of veneer. The lap joint is formed in a press which may have heated plates for pressing the overlapping portions of the veneer pieces together. The press is provided with adjustable stops for limiting the spacing between the platens in the final pressed position to provide the lap joint with the pre-determined thickness. The lap joint is bonded by glue provided on the surface of at least one of the overlapping portions of the two veneer pieces. The lap joint is heated to an elevated temperature above the lignin softening temperature of the veneer during pressing to enable thermoplastic flow of the wood veneer which produces a lap joint of greater strength. The two platens are formed with anvil surfaces including flat middle surfaces which are parallel, and side surfaces on opposite sides of each middle surface which slope away from each other and which are joined to the middle surface by curved transition portions to avoid cutting the veneer and produce a stronger lap joint.

    摘要: A laminated veneer lumber product utilizes low density veneers and is able to provide an edge stiffness value or MOE of at least 2,000,000 psi. This is the same strength as attained with high density veneers. The product has adjacent surface layers formed of low density incised veneer sheets having a moisture content of at least about 6% or adjacent surface layers formed of low density incised veneer sheets impregnated with phenolic resin and dried to a moisture content not exceeding about 5%. The surface layers are positioned on both sides of adjacent core layers which are either formed of high density veneer sheets or are formed of low density incised veneer sheets impregnated with a phenolic resin and dried to a moisture content not exceeding about 5%. The surface layers of low density incised veneer sheets having a moisture content of at least about 6% are densified against the core layers by at least about 5%.
