摘要: A flexible structure is formed by subjecting cellulose-based natural wood material to a chemical treatment that partially removes hemicellulose and lignin therefrom. The treated wood has a unique 3-D porous structure with numerous channels, excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility, and improved flexibility as compared to the natural wood. By further modifying the treated wood, the structure can be adapted to particular applications. For example, nanoparticles, nanowires, carbon nanotubes, or any other coating or material can be added to the treated wood to form a hybrid structure. In some embodiments, open lumina within the structure can be at least partially filled with a non-wood substance, such as a flexible polymer, or with entangled cellulose nanofibers. The unique architecture and superior properties of the flexible wood allow for its use in various applications, such as, but not limited to, structural materials, solar thermal devices, flexible electronics, tissue engineering, thermal management, and energy storage.

摘要: There is provided a system 1 of manufacturing a corrugated board, including: a corrugated-shape processing apparatus 4 for processing a board in a corrugated shape by curving the board; a shaping apparatus 5 for adjusting a corrugated board acquired by processing the board in a corrugated shape; and a stabilizing apparatus 6 for stabilizing the corrugated board being shaped in the corrugated shape, the corrugated-shape processing apparatus 4 including a first pressing jig 25 and a second pressing jig 27 each of which is in a roller-like shape provided on its surface with asperities to press a board into a corrugated board, being disposed facing each other, the shaping apparatus 5 including: a third pressing jig 45 and a fourth pressing jig 48 each of which has a surface with asperities in which a distance between adjacent apexes of the asperities is substantially identical to that of a surface with asperities of the corrugated board; and a heater 59, the stabilizing apparatus 6 including a fifth pressing jig 65 and a sixth pressing jig 68 each of which has a surface with asperities in which a distance between adjacent apexes of the asperities is substantially identical to that of a surface with asperities of the corrugated board after the heat-press process; and a cooling unit 69. As a result, a single board can be processed in a corrugated shape and a state of the corrugated shape can be maintained.

摘要: A method of distressing a board is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises: a) supporting the board on a material support, the board having a substantially planar surface; b) providing a blade having a front surface and a curved back cutting surface, the front surface and the curved back cutting surface intersecting to form a curved tip; c) directing the blade and the substantially planar surface into cutting contact; and d) generating relative movement between the blade and the board to distress a portion of the substantially planar surface; and wherein during step d), the blade is maintained in a fixed orientation relative to the substantially planar surface of the board so that an obtuse mount angle is maintained.

摘要: Implementations described herein comprise knives and cutting systems for forming a predetermined impression into a wood layer and methods associated therewith. In some aspects a cutting system comprises at least one knife, and a means for rotating the wood block about a rotation axis. Each knife of the at least one knife can have a cutting portion and a base portion, wherein the cutting portion comprises a cutting surface defining a pattern. The at least one knife can be operatively positioned relative to the wood block such that, upon rotation of the wood block about the rotation axis, the peripheral surface of the wood block is urged against the cutting surface of the at least one knife to form the wood layer and the pattern defined on the cutting surface of the at least one knife is configured to form the predetermined impression into the wood layer.
