A tool sharpening assembly suitable for sharpening cutting tools. In accordance with some embodiments, the apparatus has a rotatable abrasive surface, and a tool support structure which contactingly supports a body portion of a tool while a cutting surface of the tool is presented against the abrasive surface during a sharpening operation. A cooling mechanism operates to reduce a temperature of the tool.

A skate blade sharpening system includes a chassis and an elongated slot for receiving a skate blade, and a skate blade retention mechanism at an underside of the chassis to retain the skate blade in the sharpening position. A grinding wheel moves along the slot including the lower edge of the skate blade during sharpening. A pair of slot covers are mounted at a top surface of the chassis at respective ends of the slot. The slot covers are movable between covering and non-covering positions. In the non-covering positions the slot covers uncover the slot sufficiently to permit insertion and removal of the skate blade. In the covering positions, the slot covers cover end portions of the slot adjacent the ends of the skate blade to prevent insertion of objects through the end portions of the slot during sharpening.

The method is for sharpening a blade. An automatic sharpening apparatus is provided that has a holder. A blade is placed into the holder. A grinding-wheel driving motor, in operative engagement with a wheel on a spindle, rotates a grinding wheel. A grinding assembly motor moves the grinding wheel in an x-direction towards the blade. A linear motor moves the grinding wheel from a first position to a second position in a z-direction without moving the grinding-wheel driving motor. The rotating grinding wheel engages the blade. The grinding wheel sharpens the blade.

A skate squaring device includes a main frame having a slot to receive a skate blade. The main frame is designed to attach to a portion of a skate sharpening fixture such that calibration lines on the main frame are perpendicular to a centerline axis of a body of the skate blade when mounted in the holder. A magnetic angle is attached to the end of the skate blade and positioned adjacent a face of the main frame having the calibration lines to determine if the skate blade edge is square.

The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a wheel hub to reduce lateral run-out. Specifically, the present invention provides an apparatus and a method for machining the inner and outer surfaces of the wheel hub after the wheel bolts and bearing have been attached to the wheel hub. A grind wheel is used to finish an inner flange portion and outer flange portion of the wheel hub.

A spline rolling tool including a plurality of forming teeth that are to bite into a cylindrical workpiece so as to roll splines in the workpiece. Each of the forming teeth has an incomplete toothed region in which a crest of each forming tooth is removed such that an upper end of each forming tooth in the incomplete toothed region is defined by an incomplete-toothed region surface that includes a curved surface portion, a flat surface portion and a slant surface portion. The incomplete-toothed region surface is defined at its periphery by a chamfered edge that has a surface roughness of not larger than about 3.2 μm. Also disclosed is a process of manufacturing the spline rolling tool, which includes a chamfering step of forming the chamfered edge by using a wire brush having abrasive grains that are fixed to bristles of the wire brush.
