Abstract:
A method of utilizing storage in a storage system comprises prioritizing a plurality of storage areas in the storage system for data recovery with different priorities; and performing data recovery of the storage system at an occurrence of a failure involving one or more of the storage areas in the storage system based on the priorities. Data recovery for one storage area having a higher priority is to occur before data recovery for another storage area having a lower priority in the storage system. In various embodiments, the prioritization is achieved by monitoring the access characteristics, or the priority is specified by the host or management computer based on the usage and/or importance of data stored in the storage system, or the priority is determined by the storage system based on the area assignment/release (i.e., usage) of thin provisioned volumes.
Abstract:
A storage system, coupled to an external storage system, manages a virtual volume, such as a thin provision volume. The storage system also manages a first logical device created by using storage area of internal storage devices and a second logical device created by using storage area of external storage devices in the external storage system. A storage area in the first logical device or the second logical device is allocated to the virtual volume after receiving a write request to the virtual volume. The storage system has advantage that a storage area in the first logical device and the second logical device can be managed uniformly in thin provisioning function of the storage system.
Abstract:
When processing data via multiple computers, the number of computers can be increased or decreased without actually moving the data assigned to the respective computers, and the data can be arranged and processed so as to enhance the performance of the system in response to the increase of the number of computers. A plurality of computers for performing data processing stores target data to be processed in a shared storage system, and when data processing is to performed, the shared storage divides the storage area storing data corresponding to the number of computers, and creates virtual data storage areas referring to a portion of the storage area for each computer, so as to enable each computer to refer to independent virtual data storage areas and to complete data processing.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus comprises a plurality types of cache memories having different characteristics, decides on a type of cache memory to be used as a data cache destination based on the access characteristics of cache-target data, and caches the data in the cache memory of the decided type.
Abstract:
A system comprising a plurality of storage systems, which uses storage devices of multiple levels of reliability. The reliability as a whole system is increased by keeping the error code for the relatively low reliability storage disks in the relatively high reliability storage system. The error code is calculated using hash functions and the value is used to compare with the hash value of the data read from the relatively low reliability storage disks.
Abstract:
A storage system 100, which has a plurality of flash packages 230, has a function for minimizing the imbalance of the number of deletions of each block inside the flash package 230 and a block-unit capacity virtualization function, and efficiently manifests lessening of the imbalance of the number of deletions and reduction in the data storage capacity for the entire storage system 100 by having functions for calculating the number of deletions and the data occupancy of each flash package 230, and for transferring data between the flash packages 230 on the basis of the values of these number of deletions and data occupancy.
Abstract:
A compound storage system including: a storage box having a plurality of storage devices; and a plurality of servers capable of executing one or more virtual machines. The storage box stores a logical volume. The virtual machines executable by the server include an application VM and a controller VM. When a predetermined situation occurs in which an application VM of a migration source server is migrated to a predetermined migration destination server, at least one processor of the one or more servers in the compound storage system migrates the application VM to the migration destination server, and migrates a control right of a logical volume used by the application VM to a controller VM of the migration destination server.
Abstract:
A distributed storage system includes one or a plurality of storage units including a plurality of physical storage devices, and a plurality of computers connected to the one or plurality of storage units via a communication network. When receiving a write request for a logical volume, the computer writes write data corresponding to the write request and redundant data for making the write data redundant in a plurality of physical storage devices of the storage unit in a distributed manner, and collectively controls writing of a journal of write data for managing a write history of the write data and a journal of redundant data for managing a write history of the redundant data.
Abstract:
In a multi controller storage system, hardware and software are updated without interruption. The storage system including a node has storage control units each including a processor, a memory, and a port; and a storage drive, and the storage control units each request data access and transmit and receive data with respect to a host computer via the ports. The processors process input and output data from the host computer, the memories store the control information in order to access the data stored in the storage drive, and the storage system transmits the control information stored in the memories to another node, stores the control information in the memories of the storage control units, and sets ports of the other node in consideration of a relationship between the storage control units and the ports of the nodes, if the other node can access data relating to the control information.
Abstract:
A virtual storage system according to an aspect of the present invention includes multiple storage systems each including: a storage controller that accepts a read/write request for reading or writing from and to a logical volume; and multiple storage devices. The storage system defines a pool that manages the storage device capable of allocating any of storage areas to the logical volume, and manages the capacity (pool capacity) of the storage areas belonging to the pool, and the capacity (pool available capacity) of unused storage areas in the pool. Furthermore, the storage system calculates the total value of the pool available capacities of the storage systems included in the virtual storage system, and provides the server with the total value as the pool available capacity of the virtual storage system.
