Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for scheduling radio resource control connections between a wireless device and a network element of a network in advance. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may provide an indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic to the network element. The network element may schedule one or more radio resource control connections for the wireless device based at least in part on the indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic. The network element may provide an indication of the scheduled radio resource control connection(s) to the wireless device. The wireless device and the network may establish the scheduled radio resource control connection at the scheduled time.

This disclosure relates to dynamic baseband management for a wireless device. The wireless device may be an accessory device. The accessory device may determine whether it has a short-range wireless communication link with a companion device. The accessory device may determine one or more proximity metrics relating to the companion device. The accessory device may further determine one or more metrics associated with user settings, user activity and/or application activity at the wireless device. The wireless device may select a (e.g., full, limited, or off) baseband operating mode based on any or all of these considerations.
Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to more efficiently scan frequency bands for potential base stations may include a UE configured maintain a first list of cells for which a cellular scan has been successful and a second list of cells for which a cellular scan has not been successful. The UE may be configured perform a first cellular while camped on a first cell at an expiration of a scan timer and, if the cellular scan is not successful, the increment a first failure count variable associated with the first cell and add the first cell to the second list if the first cell is not present on the first or second list. Additionally, if the first cellular scan is successful, the UE may be configured to add the first cell to the first list if the first cell is not present on the first list.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for intelligent scheduling of client device tasks based on one or more network scheduling constraints. During normal network operation, a client device performs an array of scheduled maintenance tasks to optimize network performance (e.g., signal strength measurements, etc.) However, during hybrid network operation, regularly scheduled maintenance tasks for a first network can interrupt higher priority tasks on other networks. Consequently, the present invention in one embodiment provides a method for a client device to properly prioritize and re-schedule maintenance tasks. For example, CDMA 1X cell selection (or cell re-selection) procedures have flexible time constraints, and can be postponed (or expedited) to minimize impact on LTE network traffic.

Abstract:
A processor in a mobile wireless device provisions a user identity module (UIM) card in the mobile wireless device in response to a user command. The processor detects a user command to provision the UIM card and reads a provisioning status of the UIM card from a UIM card provisioning status file in the UIM card. When the provisioning status is “not provisioned”, the processor establishes a bearer independent protocol (BIP) data connection to a server in a wireless network and exchanges provisioning data between the server and the UIM card until the UIM card commands the processor to close the BIP data connection. In representative embodiments, the UIM card provisioning status file includes fields for a UIM card provisioning status, a UIM card software version and a UIM card provisioning date/time, and the processor updates the fields during provisioning.
Abstract:
A jitter buffer in a Voice over LTE receiver may be influenced by radio level feedback (RLF) from both local and remote endpoints to preemptively adjust the jitter buffer delay in anticipation of predicted future losses that have a high probability of occurring. The radio events of the RLF and the scenarios that trigger the preemptive adjustments may be identified, and their use may be expressed in terms of mathematical formulas. Previously, the instantaneous jitter was derived from a weighted history of the media stream, and consequently only packets that had already been received were used to compute the instantaneous jitter to adjust the length of the buffer. By providing and using RLF from both local and remote endpoints, the anticipated delay—for packets that have not yet arrived—may be used to preemptively adjust the buffer, thereby minimizing packet loss without introducing unnecessary delay.
Abstract:
Techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with cellular networks are disclosed. The UE may be associated with subscriptions to multiple carriers and may connect to a cell of a first carrier. The UE may detect that received signal strength from the cell is below a threshold and search for a new cell that may be of a different carrier. The UE may store a PLMN eSIM priority look up table and the search may be based on the look up table. Additionally, the UE may track received signal strength and geographic location in a first data structure that the UE may send to a server. The UE may receive a second data structure from the server that includes received signal strength at geographic locations compiled from a plurality of UEs, including the UE. The UE may also use the second data structure in searches for a new cell.
Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to determine that it does not have cellular service and perform one or more searches for a mobile country code (MCC). The searches may include searches based on cellular modes, radio access technologies (RATs), and/or cellular bands. The UE may determine the MCC based on results of the one or more searches and perform a targeted service acquisition search based on, and limited by, the MCC. The MCC may be associated with one or more cellular modes, RATs, and/or cellular bands via a data structure that maps the MCC to the one or more cellular modes, RATs, and/or cellular bands. The targeted service acquisition search may include at least one RAT and one or more cellular bands within the at least one RAT associated with the MCC.
Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform emergency calling. A UE may receive an indication to initiate an emergency call. The UE may select a cell on which to initiate the emergency call. If a serving cell of a first SIM of the UE is not available for the emergency call, the UE may utilize information from a second SIM of the UE as part of selecting the cell on which to initiate the emergency call. The information from the second SIM may include an indication of a serving cell of the second SIM. Alternatively or in addition, the information from the second SIM may include an indication of one or more neighboring cells of the second SIM. The emergency call may be initiated via the selected cell using the first SIM.
