    Abstract: An elevator system with an elevator car includes a controller for the elevator car, at least one processor, and a wireless network access point. According to a method of controlling the elevator car, a portable device transmits a probe request, the portable device is carried by a passenger of the elevator system. The probe request contains at least a first probe request data set, the first probe request data set is of a first type. The wireless network access point detects the probe request. The at least one processor accesses data storage. In the data storage there is stored a plurality of passenger profiles. Each passenger profile of the plurality of passenger profiles contains a first profile data set of the first type and a second profile data set representing at least one destination floor.

    Abstract: In methods and a system for enabling temporary interaction between a user device of a passenger and an elevator or an elevator group provided for public use in a public space, a database is maintained that includes information on at least one elevator or elevator group available for public use. A user device sends a request message that includes validation information. The request message is validated by verifying that the unique identification of the elevator or elevator group in said validation information is among said at least one elevator or elevator group available for public and that geographical locations of the user device and the elevator or elevator group fulfill a predefined proximity criterion. If the request message is deemed valid, temporary access is granted to an elevator application running on the user device for entering at least one call for elevator service via an elevator call API.

    Abstract: A method of calling an elevator car for an elevator system including: transmitting, using a first beacon, a first poll wireless signal, the first poll wireless signal having a first poll transmission speed; receiving, using the first beacon, a first response wireless signal from a passenger mobile device in response to the first poll wireless signal, the first response wireless signal having a first response transmission speed; determining a first time of flight between transmission of the first poll wireless signal from the first beacon and receipt of the first response wireless signal at the first beacon; calculating a first distance between the first beacon and the passenger mobile device based on the first time of flight, the first poll transmission speed, and the first response transmission speed; and determining a location of the passenger mobile device based on at least the first distance.

    Abstract: An illustrative example elevator system device includes an interface configured to operate in a first mode that allows an elevator passenger to communicate with the elevator system. The elevator passenger may communicate with the elevator system by inputting an indication for desired elevator service or receive an indication regarding elevator service. A magnetically actuated switch selectively causes the interface to operate in a second mode that allows an authorized individual to communicate with the elevator system in a manner that is different than an elevator passenger communication in the first mode. The magnetically activated switch includes at least one magnet and at least one switch contact that changes between an open and closed state based on an interaction between the at least one magnet and a magnetic key brought into proximity of the at least one magnet by the authorized individual.
