Abstract: An apparatus and methods for producing at extremely high production speeds small pouches filled with tobacco or other granular, powdered or solid content is provided. An endless web substrate, with or without flavor film thereon, is formed into a tubular shape with a longitudinal seam. The tube is cut to individual lengths, and a procession of tubes is crimp-closed at one end, filled and crimp-closed at the other end to complete pouch production. During production, the seams formed at the crimped ends of the pouch are parallel to one another and the longitudinal seam of the pouch is midway between the sides of the pouch and orthogonal to the seams formed at the crimped ends of the pouch.

Abstract: A flipping station including a moving surface upon which an upside-down food item is placed and a ramp spaced from the moving surface so that a gap is defined between the moving surface and the ramp. The moving surface is moving at a sufficient speed so that the upside-down food item has sufficient momentum to travel past the gap and land on the ramp. A contact surface that is positioned past the gap at a contact position and is positioned above the ramp so that the upside-down food item is deflected backwards by the contact surface into the gap and the upside-down food item rotates 180° so as to land right-side up on a landing surface located below the ramp.

Abstract: Methods, systems and computer readable media are provided for automatic kitting of items. The system for automatic kitting of items includes a robotic device, a first imaging device, a computing device and a controller. The robotic device includes an arm with a robotic gripper at one end. The first imaging device is focused on a device conveying kitted items. The computing device is coupled to the first imaging device and is configured to process image data from the first imaging device. The computing device includes item arrangement verification software configured to determine whether each item desired to be in the kitted items is present or absent in the kitted items in response to the processed image data from the first imaging device and generates data based on whether an item desired to be in the kitted items is absent from the kitted items. The controller is coupled to the computing device to receive the data from the computer representing whether an item desired to be in the kitted items is absent from the kitted items. The controller is also coupled to the robotic device for providing instructions to the robotic device to control movement of the arm and the robotic gripper, wherein at least some of the instructions provided to the robotic device are generated in response to the item desired to be in the kitted items being absent from the kitted items.

Abstract: A device for packaging elongated items that includes an upper platform for receiving the elongated items from a separate conveyor; a diverter mounted above the platform and two opposed elevator shafts having open bottoms. Abstract: A mushroom packaging system 10 comprising a mushroom packaging apparatus 11 wherein empty containers 12 are at least partially filled with mushrooms 13. The system further comprises a mushroom loading apparatus 14 comprising a mushroom loading station 15 and a mushroom conveyor 16 for retaining and conveying mushrooms loaded thereon by an operator to the mushroom packaging apparatus 11. A container storage apparatus 50 is also provided which provides a container loading station 17 positioned such that an operator may load empty containers 12 thereinto. A container conveyance apparatus 22 conveys empty containers 12 from the container storage apparatus 50 to a packaged mushroom collection station 18 via the mushroom packaging apparatus 11. Packaged mushrooms 19 received at the packaged mushroom collection station 18 may be retrieved by the operator. A single operator may load mushrooms to the mushroom loading station 15, load containers to the container loading station 17, and retrieve containers from the packaged mushroom collection station 18.
