Each core includes integrally-formed portions for defining portions of the interior surfaces of the bolster or sideframes. The integrally-formed portions may include a portion for defining the side window of the sideframe formed integrally with other portions, and may include a pedestal portion formed integrally with other portions. The integrally-formed portions may contact both the cope and drag portions of the mold. The end cores may include integrally formed core prints for supporting the core in the mold. The integrally-formed portions of the center core include connections that are formed integrally with the other portions. Molten metal is introduced into the mold to cast the bolster or sideframe.

A cylinder block for multi-cylinder engine includes a cooling water passage provided at a head-side portion of a cast metal inter-bore wall. The cooling water passage includes a plurality of vertically adjoining transverse water passages provided in vertical and multiple stages. A connecting wall portion of the cooling water passage includes at least one cast metal connecting wall connecting a front wall portion of the inter-bore wall to a rear half wall portion thereby separating the vertically adjoining transverse water passages from each other. The cooling water passage has its cast metal wall surface which faces a water passage spaced exposed in its entirety as a molded surface. The cooling water passage further includes a pair of left and right rising water passages to permit cooling water flowing within a left and right cylinder jacket of the block that is introduced into the cooling water induction portions to flow into the cooling water passage and thence upwardly out of the block via the rising water passages to circulate in a head jacket located above the block. Left and right cylinder head tightening boss portions having under surfaces are provided, and cooling water induction portions are arranged in proximity to the under surfaces of the boss portions.

A soluble wax core insert to be used in making a wax replica of a hollow metal jewelry ring has an inner round radius design and an arcuate portion having an arcuate extent of at least 140.degree.. The soluble wax core insert is formed by molding in a metal mold. Once formed, the core insert is placed in another metal mold and a plastiwax is introduced into and fills a cavity around the core insert. The plastiwax hardens and is removed from the latter mold with the core insert embedded in the hardened plastiwax article. The wax core insert is removed from the plastiwax article to yield a wax replica of the metal ring to be produced. The wax replica has an inner round radius design and is used to form a mold cavity in an investment material, which is used to cast the hollow metal jewelry ring.
