A catheter for use with a medical infusion or other fluid system. The catheter may include a flexible elongate tubular core that is resistant to radial collapse, and a separate tubular tip member forming the catheter distal tip. The catheter may further include a flexible, e.g., elastomeric, jacket that surrounds at least a portion of the tubular core. The jacket may have a radial compliance that is greater than that of the tubular core. The jacket may further define an outer diameter that is about 4 to about 6 times greater than an outer diameter of the core.
Abstract:
Delivery catheters and systems are adapted for delivering multiple discreet prostheses in body lumens. An exemplary delivery catheter comprises a sheath, a pusher for moving the prostheses relative to the sheath, and a valve member for selectively retaining the prostheses in the sheath. For balloon expandable stents, an elongated shaft and an expandable member are slidably disposed in the sheath, and the prostheses are positionable on the expandable member for deployment in the body lumen. The valve member allows a selected number of prostheses to be deployed from the sheath while retaining other prostheses within the sheath.

An expandable catheter accommodates a medical device that is being removed from a body with a larger diameter than the catheter. The same catheter may be used to reposition a device within the body to an alternative delivery site. A catheter or sheath may be used to deliver a medical device, surgical instrument, or biological sample.

A method of making a multi-lumen catheter includes forming a catheter body including a first lumen and a second lumen, and forming a catheter tip having a first channel terminating distally in a first opening on a first side of the catheter tip, and a second channel terminating distally in a second opening on a second side of the catheter tip opposite of the first side. The first and second openings of the catheter tip extend through an outer wall of the catheter tip to a dividing section. The catheter tip is affixed to the catheter body such that the first channel is aligned with the first lumen and the second channel is aligned with the second lumen.

An irrigated tip electrode design includes a shell generally surrounding a plug which jointly define a chamber that is fed with fluid by a lumen. The fluid is distributed to the outer surface of the tip electrode through fluid passages. The chamber is advantageously isolated from a region of the tip electrode occupied by electrical and/or electromagnetic components in the tip electrode. Lumens occupied by the these components terminate in blind holes that have no communication with the chamber. A method of fabricating includes providing a shell configured from a rod to provide an open interior cavity, sealing and partially filling the cavity with a plug to form a chamber, then forming fluid passages between the cavity and an outer surface of the tip electrode, and providing a lumen through which fluid can enter the chamber and exit therefrom through the fluid passages.

Abstract:
An apparatus for percutaneous catheterization. The apparatus comprises a catheter, and an inner cannula received within the lumen of the catheter. The inner cannula has a distal portion that tapers toward the distal end, and is sized to extend through the distal opening of the catheter to provide a generally smooth diametrical transition between the distal end of the catheter and the distal open end of the inner cannula. A stiffening cannula is sized to be received in the lumen of the inner catheter, and has an inner diameter sized to receive a wire guide therethrough. The stiffening cannula as a distal section of greater flexibility than the flexibility of a proximal section for providing kink resistance to the apparatus.

An elongate medical device and methods for making and using the same. The elongate medical device may be a catheter that includes an elongate tubular shaft having a lumen defined therein. A scraping member is coupled to an inner wall surface of the shaft and extends into the lumen. The scraping member is configured to remove debris that may build up or otherwise be disposed on another medical device such a guidewire.

A catheter for draining urine from the bladder and which is composed of a flexible plastic tube (1) having an insertion aid (2) secured to the insertion end of the tube. Thus the insertion aid and tube may be inserted into the urethra and guided therethrough into the bladder. The tube (1) has at least one orifice (4) in the region adjacent the insertion aid (2). Also, the insertion aid (2) connects with essentially the same diameter to the tube (1) and ends with a rounded head portion (3), whose diameter may be slightly larger than the diameter of the tube (1). The insertion aid may be significantly more flexible as compared to the tube.
