摘要: Anchors for securing a medical device relative to a body portal, wherein the anchors may accommodate most any implantation trajectory through the portal. Such anchors may further secure the device along any such trajectory without imparting undesirable biasing forces that may shift the device from its intended implanted location. In some embodiments, the anchor is configured as a burr hole anchor including a spherical member contained in a socket of the anchor such that orientation of the spherical member is permitted about three mutually perpendicular axes.

摘要: A gasket for a hemostasis valve includes an annular wall, a membrane, a central protrusion on the membrane, and a plurality of ligaments attached to the central protrusion extending radially to the annular wall. The membrane, central protrusion, and ligaments are divided by slits into a plurality of flaps, with each flap bounded along an outer circumferential edge by the annular wall, along an inner circumferential edge by the central protrusion, and along its radial edges by segments of the ligaments. Two such gaskets can be arranged, back-toback, in a hemostasis valve. To facilitate such assembly, each gasket can include a plurality of positioning protrusions extending axially and a plurality of positioning recesses set into a circumferential surface, with the protrusions and recesses having complementary shapes for proper interconnection and fit between gaskets.

摘要: A patient connector for dialysis is disclosed. In an example, a patient connector includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet and defining at least one aperture. The patient connector also includes a seal initially blocking the outlet and a hydrophobic filter covering the at least one aperture of the housing. The patient connector further includes a check valve positioned and arranged to prevent air from being vented from the housing via the at least one aperture and through the hydrophobic filter when the housing is under atmospheric pressure or negative pressure. The check valve is configured to allow air to be vented from the housing via the at least one aperture and through the hydrophobic filter when the housing is under positive pressure.

摘要: Provided herein is an instrument delivery device for advancing an instrument into a vascular access device. The instrument delivery device includes an outer housing, a connector coupled to the outer housing and including a projection member that mates with the vascular access device, and an inner housing having a distal end positioned within the outer housing and engaged with a proximal end of the instrument. The inner housing moves relative to the outer housing so that a distal movement thereof moves the instrument from a first position to a second position, with a distal end of the instrument moving from within the outer housing to out beyond the distal end of the outer housing and the projection member. A fluid flow preventing seal provided in or adjacent the connector prevents a transfer of fluid between the vascular access device and the inner volume of the outer housing.

摘要: The invention relates to a metallic, nanoporous canister used to encapsulate cellular and/or biotherapeutic agents. The device is biocompatible and functions to wholly isolate a therapeutically active agent and/or cells therein. Their implantation, and survival in vivo, permits the local or systemic diffusion of their encapsulated cellular and/or biomolecular and therapeutics factors with the potential to promote repair of damaged or degenerated tissues in mammalian hosts, primarily humans.

摘要: Embodiments of the present specification provide surgical methods and apparatuses to deploy at least one stent through an optic nerve sheath in order to maintain an opening/fenestration for intracranial fluid egress. The surgical method creates a fenestration, an opening, a slit, or a hole, through an optic nerve sheath of a human patient. The fenestration is created in a minimally invasive manner using an applicator, such as an endoscopic visualization apparatus, that includes a stent or shunt for deploying through the fenestration. The presently disclosed specification is indicated to treat papilledema and/or intracranial hypertension and to deliver therapeutic compositions through the optic nerve sheath.
