摘要： An improved slideway configuration is disclosed wherein a first slide has a first slide surface adapted to be moved along a second slide, and the first slide surface has a plurality of serrations formed in a central area defined in the first slide surface. A continuously smooth portion of the first slide surface borders the serrated central area, and lubricant-bearing pressurized fluid is introduced to the serrated central area to relieve the normal load and more evenly distribute lubricant.

摘要： A method and apparatus are disclosed for controlling a machine tool as a function of the torque load on a cutting tool. The apparatus detects the spindle motor current which may vary over four decades, the spindle motor voltage which may vary over two decades and the cutting tool angular velocity which may vary over three decades. The decimal values of the detected variables are converted to corresponding logarithmic values and stored in digital form. A microprocessor utilizes the stored values to calculate the value of torque on the cutting tool which may vary over five decades. A microprocessor determines the idle torque by averaging the torque which is measured several times over one spindle revolution. The idle torque is subtracted from subsequent gross torque measurements to provide an indication of actual cutting load on the tool. The operation of the machine is modified in response to the actual torque exceeding a predetermined reference torque value.

摘要： A conveyor apparatus for carrying workpieces on flat trays has two parallel chains with tray supports connected at equal intervals between the two chains. Each tray support has a clamping device for clamping and releasing flat silicone rubber covered trays against itself. Cams are located between the chains to operate the clamping device to release the tray (for travel through a separate path) at one point in travel and later (when the tray returns from its separate path) to clamp it again. The conveyor is shown as combined with up-and-down elevator means in an oven to give a boustrophedontic path to a plurality of workpieces being heated on trays in the oven: the trays are released and clamped at the entrance to and exit from the oven to allow movement of the trays by the elevators through up and down paths at the release and clamping stations.

摘要： A method of inhibiting or reducing the irritation of skin resulting from allergic contact dermatitis, caused by contact with natural or synthetic allergenic agents, e. g. poison ivy, and dinitrochlorobenzene, respectively, is described. The method comprises applying to the skin an irritating reducing effective amount of a protective agent which is an organic compound having at least two polar groups, e.g. carboxyl groups, separated by a chain of at least 15 atoms the majority of which are carbon atoms and optionally containing a cyclic moiety of at least 5 atoms, prior to contact of the skin with the allergenic agent. The protective agent may be combined in a pharmacologically acceptable base for application to the skin.

摘要： A nozzle shut-off valve for injection molding machine for plastic material, especially thermoplastic material, has two pneumatic cylinder-and-plunger units. One such unit has its plunger mounted to reciprocate so as to block the passageway of the plastics through the nozzle. The first such plunger and cylinder unit is provided with a pilot passage in the valve nozzle so that the pressure of molten plastic can be used to open it. The second such unit is much smaller diameter and has its plunger mounted to block the pilot passage so that the second unit in effect becomes a pilot valve and controls the application of fluid pressure through the pilot passage to the first unit plunger or blocking plunger.

摘要： A coupling includes an outer cup-shaped member which acts as a support for other portions of the coupling and which itself is revolvably supported on a conveyor that moves the coupling between workpiece loading and unloading stations. The outer cup-shaped member acts as a shield against ambient conditions which may include heating, coating or other processing means. One embodiment of the invention has a plurality of fingers mounted to move radially inward of the coupling to grasp the workpiece, which fingers are mounted to form a part of the outer shield or wall at the time that they are grasping a workpiece. Another embodiment of the invention involves an internal chuck sort of coupling using an expandable elastomeric member which can expand outwardly into a grasping relationship with a hollow portion of the workpiece. The coupling and conveyor are suited for use in handling soft or easily marked materials such as plastic, soft metals and the like.

摘要： A coupling includes an outer cup-shaped member that acts as a support for other parts and is both revolvably and slidably supported on a conveyor that moves the coupling between work stations. In the normal installation, the coupling would move between workpiece loading and unloading stations. Slide motion relative to the conveyor is used to engage and disengage a workpiece. The outer cup-shaped member acts as a shield against ambient conditions which may include heating, coating or the like. The coupling preferably involves an internal chuck feature having an expandable resilient detent member preferably in the form of a metallic stretchable annular member known as a garter spring. The coupling and conveyor are suited for use in handling soft or easily marked materials such as plastic.
