摘要: A valuable paper is provided which comprises on a surface of the paper 50 a characteristic pattern 51 detectable by a sensor 16 of a validator 10 to discriminate authenticity of a bill inserted into the validator 10. The bill has at least a distinctive portion detectable by the sensor 16. The paper 50 has its width W substantially same as the width of the bill. The characteristic pattern 51 of the paper 50 is formed on substantially same position in width W as that of the distinctive portion in the bill. The paper 50 is inserted into the validator 10 to detect the characteristic pattern 51 of the paper 50 by the sensor 16 for discrimination of the paper 50 by the validator 10.

摘要: A device for validating the authenticity of a document uses changes in capacitance due to the presence of an electrically conductive security thread extending across the document. The device uses a drive arrangement for moving of a document such as a bank note, past a sensing arrangement which senses changes in capacitance due to movement of a security thread therepast. A frequency generator produces a high frequency time varying oscillator signal and provides this signal to an elongate oscillator electrode extending across the path of movement. A lead elongate measuring electrode is electrically conductive and positioned in front of the oscillator electrode and extends across said path and a trailing elongate measuring electrode is positioned behind the oscillator electrode and extends across the path. The signals from the measuring and the oscillator electrode are provided to a signal processing arrangement. The signal processing arrangement processes the signals relative to detect a phase shift between the signals caused by a conductive security thread passing by the electrodes. Sensing of the phase shift reduces sensitivity to variations caused by wobble of the bank note and changes in separation distance of the bank note from the sensor.

摘要: Measuring the limpness of a note is necessary to separate a worn note out of circulation. Several methods are disclosed which can be used either alone or in combination to test for limpness. One method measures the note's ability to reflect light or transmit the light. Another method measures the response of the note to an acoustic wave. Another method measures the note's deflection to a pressure or force. Yet another method measures the dielectric value of the note when placed between the plates of a capacitor. A final method involves measuring the thermal conductivity of the note. In each case, a limp note will produce distinguishable results from a stiff note.

摘要: Determination of the authenticity and integrity of various types of documents such as lottery tickets is accomplished by using an electronic verification machine to compare data contained in electronic circuits printed on the document to document data printed on the document. The electronic circuits are printed on the document in conductive or semiconductive ink using, for example the gravure printing process, and the presence or status of the circuits can be used to verify or authenticate the document. Data can be represented in the electronic circuits by the electrical signature of the circuit which is measured by the electronic verification machine. In the case of lottery tickets, a ticket can be validated by having the electronic verification machine determine which play spots have been removed from the ticket and comparing data on the ticket with the removed play spots to determine a play redemption value for the ticket. Document verification or lottery ticket validation can also be accomplished by transmitting signature data from the electronic circuits via the electronic verification machine to a central computer for comparison with document data.

摘要: A method and a device for automatic verification of genuineness of a banknote or a document comprising a watermark is described. A two-part, doubly active capacitive sensor device (4, 6, 7) is used. A symmetry property of the sensor output signal is changed in a predetermined manner when a correct watermark is present in a coinciding position with shape-adapted capacitor electrodes (4, 6).
