摘要: A plural mode fuze with a bimetallic spring delay module providing delay ing, impact functioning, random time detonating and/or self-destruct functioning of a munition. The fuze includes a cup containing a detonator and a safing and arming means, a striker cup slidably nested therein, and an intermediate compression spring for moving the cups oppositely from a safe position to an armed position. The striker cup contains a fixedly mounted bimetallic spring delay module, which includes a bimetallic Belleville spring containing a firing pin, a pyrotechnic charge for heating the spring, a heat sink and thermal insulation means. The fuze has a means for locking the Belleville spring when it inverts by heat from the pyrotechnic charge, whereby the Belleville spring overcomes the compression spring. Impact of the fuze with the ground, prior to the expiration of the first delay period required to invert the Belleville spring, pushes back the striker cup, thereby overcoming the compression spring and driving the firing pin into the detonator. After expiration of said first delay period, the bimetallic Belleville spring, held by the locking means, inverts without moving the firing pin, thereby overcoming the compression spring and drawing the cups together so that the striker cup cannot move toward the detonator. In the latter condition the fuze cannot impact function but self-destruct functions when the Belleville spring snaps back after expiration of the second delay period required to revert said spring by cooling, thereby driving the firing pin into the detonator.

摘要: An energy generator for rotating projectiles which may be adapted to prod either electrical or mechanical energy. An armature in the form of a rotatable disc is offset from the spin axis of the projectile towards the outer periphery thereof. The disc is normally biased in a first position and is caused by virtue of a mass delivery mechanism actuated by centrifugal forces, to rotate to a second position. The mass delivery mechanism provides masses in the form of weighted balls to a slot formed in the outer periphery of the disc and the centrifugal force rotates the disc to its second position. An outlet chute is adapted to receive the weighted ball whereupon the disc rerotates to its first position. The oscillatory motion of the armature may be utilized to couple out either the electrical or mechanical energy.

A delay element casing has a body that contains a plurality of delay composition columns of predetermined varying lengths. A primer retaining dial is rotatably mounted in the delay case and has a central rearmost primer and a passageway for selectively placing one of the delay columns in fluid communication with the primer.

摘要: A fuze mechanism for projectiles and the like is provided with a number of integrated safety catches which must be successively released before the fuze may be detonated. A firing pin lock cannot be released until the fuzing time has first been set. Release of the lock and the firing pin is also prevented by a centering piston response to inertial forces at the time the projectile is launched and another piston controlled by the clockwork of the fuze. The clockwork may be overridden by mechanism detecting impact of the projectile to permit detonation in a period of time shorter than the fuzing time.

摘要: A self-destruct time device has a resistance shunted capacitor charged by a power supply, prior to launch of a munition, through a normally open latching spin switch and an intermittently normally closed single pole electrostatic switch. The power supply is automatically disconnected from the projectile as soon as the munition is launched. A detonator, connected into a timing circuit by the spin forces of a launched projectile, is subsequently fired after projectile impact when the electrostatic switch is reswitched, as a function of the RC time constant, from its open position to its normally closed position because of reduced electrostatic force on its pole piece.

摘要: A miniature initiator assembly which is adjusted to a selected one of several variable time delay settings immediately prior to use. A spool has an open end telescopingly received between the cartridge case and propellant container which are located in the initiator chamber, and the spool hub portion has a centrally located primer for actuation by a firing pin mechanism mounted in the initiator cap which is keyed to the spool and rotatably mounted relative to the initiator chamber. The cartridge case is keyed to both the chamber and container, the container having predeterminedly spaced sidewall ignition holes filled with igniter mix. An external spiral groove on the spool contains a pyrofuse cord and predeterminedly spaced lateral passages, with one end of the cord extending through one of the passages adjacent the primer. Relative rotation of the spool and container will enable a selected ignition hole to align with the cord to provide a desired effective length of the delay cords.
