    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are related to oxidative opening switches and related methods, amongst other things. In an embodiment, the invention includes a switch assembly including a first terminal, a second terminal, and an oxidative switch element in electrical communication with the first terminal and the second terminal, the switch element comprising a conductive material and an oxidizer, the switch element configured to interrupt electrical communication between the first terminal and the second terminal as a result of an oxidation reaction between the conductive material and the oxidizer. In an embodiment, the invention includes a fast opening switch for pulse power applications. Other aspects and embodiments are provided herein.

    Abstract: An electrochemical potential memory device comprising a cathode mainly comprising silver, an anode mainly comprising silver chalcogenide, and a silver ion conductive solid state electrolyte sandwiched therebetween is connected to a current source for selectively driving the device in a charging state or discharging state and to a high input impedance direct current amplifier responsive to the terminal voltage of the device, and a timing operation signal proportional to the lapse of the charging or discharging time is obtained from the amplifier. In a preferred embodiment, the potential memory device comprises a main cathode for supply of the charging or discharging current and an auxiliary cathode for detecting the terminal voltage of the device, the latter being connected to the high input impedance amplifier. The timing apparatus employing such device eliminates disadvantageous influence caused by an overvoltage as occurs at the time of current conduction in the device.

    Abstract: The disclosure illustrates a longterm timing system comprising a battery coupled to an electrochemical cell through a pulsing circuit. The electrochemical cell is of the type that requires current flow above a minimum value to enable proper operation. The pulses from the pulsing circuit have a peak substantially greater than the minimum permissible current level but the pulses are substantially spaced in time. The resultant average current flow is then low enough so that the time at which the impedance of the electrochemical cell changes is greatly increased.
