摘要: A disk chipper includes a bedknife, the bedknife having opposing first and second surfaces, and a chipper frame, the chipper frame having an opening for receiving the bedknife, the opening being defined by opposing first and second surfaces for facing the first and second surfaces of the bedknife, respectively. The disk chipper further includes a wedge, the wedge being movable in a first direction between the second surface of the bedknife and the second surface of the chipper frame to move the first surface of the bedknife in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction toward the first surface of the chipper frame. A method for fastening a bedknife to a disk chipper is also disclosed.

摘要: A method of making two wood products using a single attaching or laminating step. A cut is made only partially through a first piece of wood. A second piece of wood is laminated or otherwise attached to the first piece of wood to make a composite piece of wood. The composite piece of wood is then cut to create the two wood products. The method may be used to create two wood products having substantially identical cross-sections.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for detecting imperfections in adhesive coatings formed on fingers of beams are disclosed. The present invention relates, in one aspect, to a method for preparing a first work piece for joining with a second work piece. The method involves forming a finger in the first work piece, then applying an adhesive coating on the finger. A determination is made to determine whether the adhesive coating is defective through the used of a sensing mechanism which is arranged to scan across a portion of the finger. In one embodiment, a defect in the adhesive coating on the finger is defined as a void.

摘要: A modular panel can used either as a pattern plate or a template to create a pattern plate in the fabrication of dovetail joints. This panel is a planar member having a generally rectangular shape, including a pair of sides, a left edge, and a right edge. The panel defines a first plurality of elongated openings positioned adjacent one of the sides of the panel, each of said openings extending between oppositely disposed first and second circular ends, said openings being used as a guide to cut the tails of a dovetail joint. The panel further defines a second plurality of openings positioned adjacent the other side of the panel. These openings are used as a guide to cut the pins of a dovetail joint. Additionally, the panel defines "half-openings" along its left and right edges. Thus, when two panels are placed side-by-side, the adjacent half-openings form the above described first and second elongated openings, thereby allowing a series of panels to be used to create dovetail joints of an indefinite length.

摘要: An improved method is disclosed for the fusing, joining or seaming of cellulosic materials. The method utilizes a hydroxide solution of selected organometallic compounds or metal oxides to rapidly crosslink opposing, overlapping cellulosic surfaces to provide secure seams. In particular, the invention is directed to the production, either on-line or off-line, of tubular cellulosic casings for the manufacture of sausages and sausage-like products. The seams according to this invention have such high shear strength that extremely narrow bond widths are possible. The narrowness of the bond site eliminates or minimizes striping or discoloration of the finished product.

摘要: A clamp (200) for clamping stacked lumber (72) to prevent twisting and bending of the lumber or theft is disclosed. A horizontal member (274) goes under the lumber and is attached to a vertical member (214) at the back. A pressure bar (206) hinged to the vertical member goes on top of the lumber. When the front of the pressure bar is lowered to the top of stack, an automatic lock (222) retains the rear of the pressure bar at a fixed position on the vertical member. A brace (204) between the front of the pressure bar and the vertical member holds the pressure bar in position. The effective length of the brace is increased by means of a lever operated cam (202) which places 2000 pounds of pressure on the front of the pressure bar to clamp the stack.
