Abstract: An orthopaedic appliance which enables paralytics to stand erect has a pllity of separate pieces of clothing to be fitted around body parts located between joints, the pieces having an inflatable support structure in the form of vertical tubes, and including belts formed of two strips of cloth fastened to opposite sides of the support structure, and devices inter-connecting pieces of clothing located on opposite sides of a body joint in the form of two rows of pins attached to the inflatable structures of the pieces of clothing and a mechanical articulation interconnecting the rows of pins. The inflatable tubes have generally rectangular cross-sections and the widths of the tubes of each support structure decrease symmetrically from the center to the side edges of the structure. The supporting devices connecting pieces of clothing on opposite sides of the hip joint have one row of pins detachably connected to the mechanical articulation.

Abstract: An orthopaedic appliance which enables paralytics to stand erect has a fabric garment formed in separate pieces to be tightly wrapped around body parts located between joints the pieces having an inflatable support structures in the form of vertical tubes and devices connecting garment pieces located on opposite sides of a body joint in the form of a separate row of rigid parallel pins attached to the inflatable structure each garment piece and a pivot which can be hydraulically or otherwise driven, interconnecting the rows of pins. The inflatable tubes are located in elongate fabric sheaths and the pins are inserted in fabric sheaths defined between the tube sheaths so that when the tubes are inflated they clamp the pins between them.

Abstract: A handcuff for the treatment of the carpal tunnel syndrome of a hand, the handcuff comprising a base body including a dorsal section and a palmar section. The dorsal section is adapted to exert a pressure on the dorsal side of the hand at at least one location, the palmar section is arranged to exert a pressure on the palmar side of the hand on both sides of the carpal tunnel respectively at at least one location on both sides of the carpal tunnel, and the dorsal section and the palmar section are arranged to widen the carpal tunnel of the hand by the exertion of pressure. In embodiments, the base body has, between the dorsal section and the palmar section, two substantially opposite open slots, between the dorsal section and the palmar section, and the slots are adapted to receive the thumb of the left or the right hand.

Abstract: An appendage pressurization device includes an appendage strap and one or more artificial muscles communicatively coupled to a controller. Each artificial muscle includes a housing having an electrode region, an expandable fluid region, a dielectric fluid housed within the housing, and an electrode pair positioned in the electrode region of the housing. The electrode pair includes a first electrode fixed to a first surface of the housing and a second electrode fixed to a second surface of the housing, wherein the electrode pair is actuatable between a non-actuated state and an actuated state. Actuation from the non-actuated state to the actuated state directs the dielectric fluid into the expandable fluid region. A pressure sensor is communicatively coupled to the controller, wherein the pressure sensor outputs a current pressure value to the controller and actuation of the electrode pair is based on the current pressure value.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a support for people with distended abdominal areas such as, but not limited to, individuals who are overweight or pregnant. Further, the support apparatus may be used by people suffering from back problems, as the raised area surrounding the opening in the support raises the pelvis and is intended to remove pressure from the lumbar spine and other areas of a person's midsection. A band or cloth may further be positioned over a portion of the support such that additional support or comfort may be provided to a user.
