    Abstract: A subject identification device includes: an illuminator configured to generate illumination light including components at a plurality of wavelength bands, each of the components having a characteristic in accordance with a respective one of settings; an imager configured to generate an image signal by capturing light from a subject under the illumination light having the illumination characteristic; and a processor including hardware. The processor is configured to: define an illumination characteristic of the illumination light; analyze the image signal to acquire spectral information of the subject; and cross check the spectral information of the subject with subject identification information in order to identify the subject. When the subject is not identified, the processor is configured to define another illumination characteristic that causes spectral information of potentials for the subject to be identified, and subsequently each of the imager and the processor performs a process.

    Abstract: Provided is an optical apparatus using reflection geometry. The optical apparatus includes a lens element disposed to face an object to be measured, a light source generating an incident beam that passes through the lens element to be incident on the object, and a photodetector receiving light that is scattered by the object. The incident beam is obliquely incident on the object off an optical center axis of the lens element, without passing through the optical center axis. The scattered light is transmitted to the photodetector by passing through the optical center axis of the focusing lens element and a region therearound.

    Abstract: A medical system comprising a hand-held imaging device comprising optical components including a light source to illuminate an area of medical interest, a liquid crystal variable retarder to receive light from the area of medical interest, and a retardance controller to provide a driving waveform to the variable retarder that controls retardance. The device also includes an image sensor configured to receive light from the variable retarder and to convert the received light into an output voltage signal for either the camera operation or the hyperspectral imaging operation, and communication circuitry configured to communicate imaging information based on the output voltage signal to a medical diagnostic system. The hand-held imaging device is configured to switchably perform a hyperspectral imaging and a camera operation such that the operations share at least one optical component. The diagnostic device is configured to receive the imaging information and to provide diagnostic information based thereon.

    Abstract: A spectroscope includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposite to each other; a light introducing assembly on a side of the first substrate facing away from the second substrate; a temperature adjusting assembly between the first substrate and the second substrate; a liquid crystal dimming assembly between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the temperature adjusting assembly is configured to adjust a temperature of the liquid crystal dimming assembly, so as to adjust spectrum of light passing through the liquid crystal dimming assembly; a spectroscopic grating on the first substrate; a reflector on the second substrate and configured to reflect incident light introduced by the light introducing assembly to the spectroscopic grating; and a plurality of sensors configured to receive the incident light after being subjected a light splitting by the spectroscopic grating. A wavelength of the incident light received by each sensor is different.

    Abstract: A sensor apparatus having a sensor unit. The sensor unit including pixel assemblages on a substrate upper side of a substrate located on a lower side of the sensor unit; a cap, on the substrate upper side, which covers the pixel assemblages, a cavity being formed between the substrate upper side and the cap; a plurality of filters that are transparent to wavelength regions that differ from one another, exactly one pixel assemblage being associated with each filter; and the filters being on the cap so that the infrared radiation propagated through an absorption gap of the sensor apparatus and the upper side of the sensor unit is detectable, through the respective filter, by the pixel assemblage associated with the respective filter; and a coating made of a light-absorbing and/or light-reflecting material being configured at least locally on a part of the cap which is not covered by the filters.
