    Abstract: A quench system includes an enclosure defining a quench chamber sized to receive hot castings, and bulk air fans in fluid communication with the quench chamber and configured to establish a bulk flow of cooling air that surrounds and extracts heat from the hot castings at a first cooling rate. The quench system also includes a pressurized cooling system in fluid communication with a plurality of nozzles within the quench chamber and configured to spray a plurality of a directed flows of cooling fluid onto the hot castings to extract heat at a second cooling rate. The quench system further includes a programmable controller configured to sequentially activate the bulk air fans to cool the casting at the first cooling rate for a first predetermined period of time, and then activate the pressurized cooling system to cool the casting at the second cooling rate for a second predetermined period of time.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for continuous annealing of a strip, capable of manufacturing a high-strength and highly ductile cold-rolled steel sheet having both excellent strength and ductility, and to a method for continuous annealing of a strip. The continuous annealing apparatus, according to the present invention, is capable of continuous annealing by cooling after heating, and then reheating, unlike an existing continuous annealing apparatus which heats only once and then cools or provides an overaging treatment. As a result, the continuous annealing apparatus, according to the present invention, can preliminarily render a homogeneous texture or control the texture as desired, and then perform another reheating heat treatment to stabilize the texture or control the shape thereof to a desired state. Also, provided is a continuous annealing apparatus and a continuous annealing method using the apparatus, the continuous annealing apparatus also capable of manufacturing high-strength steel having excellent processability and strength by using a low alloy, and capable of manufacturing a zinc-plated strip having excellent plated surfaces by controlling the thickness of elements and oxides enriched on the surface of the strip.

    Abstract: A cryogenic chamber system can include a vacuum chamber operable at a vacuum pressure of 100 mTorr or less, and a cold head assembly including an expander for receiving and expanding cryogenic fluid for cooling a cold head interface. The cold head assembly can be positioned within the vacuum chamber. The cryogenic chamber system can further include a thermally conductive platform thermally coupled to the cold head interface within the vacuum chamber, wherein the thermally conductive platform has a working surface having a surface area that is at least 10 times larger than a surface area of the cold head interface. The working surface can be configured to reach a temperature from about 4 K to about 120 K at the vacuum pressure as a result of thermal coupling with the cold head interface.
