The present invention provides rotatable cutting tools having washers with changing thicknesses. One side of the washer has a tapered surface that increases the thickness of the washer from the inner radius towards the outer radius, resulting in a thicker portion at the outer edge of the washer. The rotatable cutting tool may also have a bit with a tapered surface. The tapered surface of the bit may be structured and arranged to engage with the tapered surface of the washer. The rotatable cutting tool may also include a holder such that the assembled rotatable cutting tool includes the washer between the bit and the holder with the bit inserted into the holder and washer.

The invention relates to a tool for installing a bit on and/or deinstalling a bit from a bit holder system of a milling machine, in particular a road milling machine, having at least one initiator with which installation and/or deinstallation of a bit is initiated. Provision is made that the tool comprises a detection device having at least one counting device; and that the detection device is designed to detect a number of bits deinstalled using the tool and/or a number of bits installed using the tool. The invention also relates to a corresponding bit holder system and to a method for monitoring wear. With the tool and the bit holder system, additional information regarding bit changes that have been carried out is made available to a user.

A cutting bit for a bit assembly secured to a cutter head includes a cutting end, a shank extending along a bit axis, and a shoulder positioned between the cutting end and the shank. The shoulder includes an outer edge defining a perimeter, a shoulder end surface defining a shoulder plane, a first inclined surface and a second inclined surface. The first inclined surface is positioned between the outer edge and the shoulder end surface. The first inclined surface extends along the perimeter and is oriented at a first acute angle relative to the shoulder plane. The second inclined surface is positioned between the shoulder end surface and the first inclined surface. The second inclined surface is oriented at a second acute angle relative to the shoulder plane, and the second acute angle is smaller than the first acute angle.

A polycrystalline diamond construction comprising a body of polycrystalline diamond material is formed of a mass of diamond grains exhibiting inter-granular bonding and defining a plurality of interstitial regions therebetween, and a non-diamond phase at least partially filling a plurality of the interstitial regions to form non-diamond phase pools, the non-diamond phase pools each having an individual cross-sectional area. The percentage of non-diamond phase in the total area of a cross-section of the body of polycrystalline diamond material and the mean of the individual cross-sectional areas of the non-diamond phase pools in the image analysed using an image analysis technique at a selected magnification is less than 0.7, or less than 0.340 microns squared, or between around 0.005 to 0.340 microns squared depending on the percentage of non-diamond phase in the total area of the cross-section of the polycrystalline diamond construction. There is also disclosed a method of making such a construction.

A tool holder is disclosed for use with a milling drum. The tool holder may have a cylindrical body defining a first end and a second end, the first end configured to be received within a tool mounting block of the milling drum, the second end configured to receive a cutting bit. A flange may be located between the first and second end with respect to an axial direction, and a first bore, with a first opening defined by the second end and extending towards the first end. A frustoconical portion may be located between the flange and the first end with respect to the axial direction and a cylindrical portion located between the flange and the first end. At least one radial opening may pass through at least the wall of the cylindrical portion to intersect or be open to the first bore.

The flange includes a first end surface, a second end surface, and a sleeve outer surface extending between the first end surface and the second end surface. A portion of the sleeve outer surface positioned adjacent the first end surface defines a sleeve profile. The bit includes a cutting end, a shank, and a shoulder positioned between the cutting end and the shank. The shank is positioned within the bore, and the shoulder is positioned adjacent the first end surface of the sleeve. A bit outer surface extending between the cutting end and the shoulder. A portion of the bit outer surface positioned adjacent the shoulder defines a bit profile that corresponds to the sleeve profile.

A cutting tool holding device for holding a cutting tool is provided. The cutting tool holding device includes a base, a holder, and a fastening member. The base includes a rabbet, an angular receiving hole, and a positioning hole. The holder includes a main body and a tool receiving corner post. The main body includes an engaging portion which is detachably engaged into the rabbet. The tool receiving corner post extending projects from the main body and is correspondingly set into the angular receiving hole, wherein a position limiting groove is formed on the tool receiving corner post corresponded with the positioning hole. The fastening member is fastened in the positioning hole and pressed against the position limiting groove.

A profile of a cutting tip includes a convex portion extending from a cutting end to an inflection point located at an axial and radial distance from the cutting end. A concave portion extends from the inflection point to a point at a greater radial and axial distance from the cutting end. The profiles of the generally concave portion and the generally convex portion have a first linear portion defined by a portion of a first line extending from a first point at a first radial position to a second point at a second radial position and axially spaced from the first point. A second linear portion is defined by a portion of a second line extending from a third point to a fourth point at the second radial position and at an axial distance from the second point corresponding to about half a length of the first line.

The invention relates to a chisel (10) having a chisel head (11) and a chisel shaft (17), wherein near its end facing away from the chisel head the chisel shaft has a threaded portion having a thread (19), wherein the chisel head holds a chisel tip (20) made of a hard material, and wherein near the side facing the chisel shaft the chisel head is provided with a supporting surface (15). Especially when superhard hard materials are used for the chisel tip, a load-optimized chisel design is obtained by a domed supporting surface (15).
