The system and method for name resolution stores an identity information document containing a user-friendly handle signifying identity, such as an email address, and a machine location, such as an IP address, for the publishing computer system where the documents are stored. Next, the system and method intercepts an initial request for access to documents when the initial request includes a user-friendly handle and replaces the user-friendly handle with the machine location, so that network users may easily access these documents through knowledge only of the user-friendly handle.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and system for assuring H.323 alias address portability to an H.323 user in real-time H.323 multimedia communications where the H.323 user is registered with a home gatekeeper for the home zone of the H.323 user. Alias address portability may be obtained using a central database that is known to the administrative zones and is used for alias address mapping, or alternatively, may be obtained by using a distributed database. The method may be implemented by: sending, by the H.323 user, a message with a called H.323 entity's alias address, to the home gatekeeper to originate a call to the called H.323 entity; confirming that the alias address, services, and service providers are portable; converting the alias address to a called routable alias address for the called H.323 entity and sending the alias address to the H.323 user; and placing the call to the called H.323 entity.

摘要： A point-to-point Internet protocol exchanges Internet Protocol (IP) addresses between processing units to establish a point-to-point communication link between the processing units through the Internet. A first point-to-point Internet protocol includes the steps of (a) storing in a database a respective IP address of a set of processing units that have an on-line status with respect to the Internet; (b) transmitting a.query from a first processing unit to a connection server to determine the on-line status of a second processing unit; and (c) retrieving the IP address of the second unit from the database using the connection server, in response to the determination of a positive on-line status of the second processing unit, for establishing a point-to-point communication link between the first and second processing units through the Internet. A second point-to-point Internet protocol includes the steps of (a) transmitting an E-mail signal, including a first IP address, from a first processing unit; (b) processing the E-mail signal through the Internet to deliver the E-mail signal to a second processing unit; and (c) transmitting a second IP address to the first processing unit for establishing a point-to-point communication link between the first and second processing units through the Internet.

摘要： A method of operating a communication system to establish communication sessions between an origination network and a peer-to-peer network comprises receiving session signaling to establish a session between an origination device in the origination network and a destination node in the peer-to-peer network, wherein the session signaling includes a participant identifier associated with the origination device. The method further comprises processing the participant identifier to determine if persona information that identifies an originating participant and an entity associated with the originating participant is available for display by a destination device registered as the destination node on the peer-to-peer network and, if the persona information is available, transferring the persona information for delivery to and display by the destination device to a destination participant. The method further comprises establishing the session over the origination network and the peer-to-peer network and exchanging user communications for the session between the origination device and the destination device.

摘要： A method of accessing content at a user terminal connected to a communication network and executing a communication client includes the client displaying a list of contacts associated with a user of the client and the client retrieving a message from the communication network. The message is related to a further user represented by one of the contacts displayed in the list of contacts, and includes a reference to content stored in a storage means accessible by the communication network. The client initiates a call to the further user over the communication network responsive to a user of the client selecting the one of the contacts in the list of contacts. Responsive to initiating the call, the client establishes communication with the storage means using the reference, accesses the content and displays the content at the user terminal.

摘要： The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for establishing and maintaining communication between two or more communication devices coupled to communication networks. Some specific aspects relate to communication between a plurality of communication devices each of which is coupled to a respective network. Other aspects relate to establishing such communication by way of contact lists maintained and facilitated on systems coupled to the networks. Users of multiple communication networks, such as VoIP, PSTN and wireless, employ multiple communication devices to communicate with their contacts. For example, a VoIP enabled computer is necessary to access contacts on a VoIP network and a mobile or cellular telephone is used to access contacts on wireless and PSTN networks. A contact list, stored on one communication device, in some instances, cannot be accessed from another communication device. For example, a contact list stored in a VoIP enabled computer cannot be accessed from PSTN or wireless phone devices. Various embodiments described herein provide a convenient solution that can integrate contacts stored on different communication devices and make them accessible from a single device.
