Abstract:
An installation for and a method for driving a submarine pipeline scraper, wherein one of the ends of the pipeline has a launch device and the other end has a receiving device. The scraper defines an upstream chamber and a downstream chamber. It can be launched inside the pipeline from the launch device in the direction of the receiving device, allowing water to enter through the launch device in order to subject the upstream chamber to hydrostatic pressure. The receiving device is identical to the launch device, such that water can enter through the receiving device in order to balance the pressure of the two chambers, and also enables a fluid to be injected into the downstream chamber to drive the scraper toward the launch device.
Abstract:
A flexible pipe pig includes a grouping of a plurality of individual piglets and at least one flexible member interconnecting piglets. An optic fiber for installation in an extended conduit. The fiber includes a length of optic fiber and at least one flexible pipe pig attached thereto. A method for preparing an optic fiber for installation through a conduit. The method includes attaching a flexible pipe pig, having a grouping of a plurality of piglets, to the optic fiber. A pipe pig including a body having a non-deflected outside dimension in a single cross-section of the body, which represents a largest transaxial cross-section of the body, the cross-section of the body being smaller than an inside dimension of a conduit through which the pipe pig is intended to be run.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for mapping vibrations in a pipeline using an in-flow vehicle (“IFV”) are provided. The IFV is propelled through a pipeline, either by fluid flow or by self-propulsion. The IFV includes one or more vibration sensors, a power source, and electronic instrumentation that is programmed to records vibrations present in the fluid periodically as the IFV travels through the pipeline. Processed vibrations are periodically stored in the memory of the vehicle and subsequently transferred to a computer. The processed vibrations are analyzed to determine the location of the vibration energies emanating from any leaks present in the pipeline.
Abstract:
The invention is generally directed to a pipeline sphere, and more specifically a seamless pipeline sphere wherein said sphere presents a flexible, seamless outer layer surrounding an inflatable inner bladder portion which itself defines a hollow chamber. The outer layer and the inner bladder portion contain apertures which are aligned to form a channel connecting the hollow chamber to the outside environment. A weighted material may be added to the pipeline sphere, if desired.
Abstract:
A vehicle (1) for travelling along a conduit (2) such as a pipeline having fluid flowing therein is disclosed. The vehicle comprises a first body carrying a first set of retractable bristles (12) for engaging an internal wall of the conduit such that the bristles resist movement of the first body in a first direction more than in a second direction, and a second set of retractable bristles (13) for engaging the internal wall of the conduit such that the bristles resist movement of the first body in the second direction more than in the first direction. A thread follower (16) carries a third set of resilient bristles (18) for engaging the internal wall of the conduit such that the bristles resist movement of the thread follower in the first direction more than in the second direction. A turbine (5) is actuated by fluid flow in the conduit to cause rotation of a reverse traverse screw (14) to move the first body and thread follower towards and away from each other. The first (12) and second (13) bristles are stiffer than the third bristles (18).
Abstract:
The two sealing lips of a pig, which is driven by a pushing medium for delivering a coating material for the mass-production coating of workpieces, have a self-sharpening sealing edge contacting the inner wall of the piggable line. Flat outer surface parts of the sealing lip formed ahead of and behind the sealing edge are angled against the inner wall of the line for an unloaded pig, while the inner surface part in the axial direction is pressed flat against the line under loading by the pushing medium. The production of the pig is realized through turning and subsequent shaping of the sealing lips in a transport sleeve in which the pig is kept and brought to its insertion location.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to a method and apparatus for performing an operation in a tubular. In one aspect, a method comprises positioning an apparatus in the tubular, the apparatus having a tractor portion and an auxiliary module. The method further includes operating the tractor portion to move the apparatus through the tubular and operating the auxiliary module to perform the operation in the tubular. In another aspect, an apparatus for use in a tubular is provided. The apparatus comprises a tractor having a drive member for moving the apparatus in a desired direction, a turbine member adapted to be driven by moving fluid and a conversion member for converting movement of the turbine member to power the drive member. The apparatus further includes an auxiliary module for use in performing an operation in the tubular.
Abstract:
A method of inspecting district heating pipes consists in introducing into the pipe a vehicle including an uninflated balloon and a pulley in which a cable is inserted. The vehicle is immobilized in the pipe by inflating the balloon. A sensor is moved in the pipe by fixing it to one end of the cable and pulling on the other end of the cable to move the sensor toward the immobilized vehicle in order to inspect the pipe. The vehicle includes a parachute and is propelled in the pipe by introducing into the pipe a fluid under pressure that acts on the parachute. The balloon is deflated when the sensor reaches the vehicle immobilized in the pipe. The vehicle and the sensor are withdrawn from the pipe by pulling on the end of the cable so that the inspection is carried out during the return travel of the vehicle and the sensor. With this method, the inspection can be carried out with access from only one end of the pipe.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for inspecting hollow spaces such as pipes, conduits, structures or containers. The device consists of the following: a probe with a built-in camera (5.0) whose objective is oriented towards a front end of a base body (1.0) of said probe; a hose-type supply line to the probe for a liquid or gaseous medium, said line being connected to the back end of the base body of said probe; a supply unit for the hose-type supply line, which is situated outside of the area where the probe is being used; at least one outlet nozzle (3.0) for the medium, which is located on the probe; and transmission means which are provided between the camera (5.0) and an evaluating and/or reproducing unit. At least three rotating outlet nozzles for the medium are situated on the periphery of the base body (1.0) between its front and back end and the jet axis of the medium is angled at 0null to 45null from the central longitudinal axis between the front and back end of the base body (1.0).
Abstract:
An apparatus for use in a pipeline is disclosed. The apparatus has a housing through which pipeline fluids may enter from the rear of the housing, pass through the housing and subsequently exit from the housing. A first bonnet, having several openings, is mounted at the front of the housing on a shaft which is oriented parallel to the longitudinal axis of the housing. A second bonnet is mounted on the housing and fits over the first bonnet. The second bonnet has openings which, when aligned with the openings in the first bonnet, permit the flow of pipeline fluid out of the housing in various directions. The first bonnet is movable in relation to the second bonnet so as to vary the degree of alignment of the openings in the bonnets. By varying the degree of alignment of the openings in the bonnets, the flow of fluids through the housing is regulated so as to control the speed of the apparatus.
