A finish composition for a precursor for high-performance carbon fibers, containing (1) 0.2-10 parts by weight of an aminocarboxylic material selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acid salts of alkylamines, carboxylic acid salts of arylamines, carboxylic acid salts of alkylarylamines, amino acids and betaine compounds, and (2) 100 parts by weight of a mixture of (a) 80-20 parts by weight of a finish prepared by adding, to (i) a silicone finish containing 50 wt % or more of an amino-modified polysiloxane having a nitrogen content in amino groups in the range of 0.05-2.0 wt % and a viscosity at 25.degree. C. of 500 centistokes or more, (ii) 0.3-5.0 molar equivalents of a lower aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of 6 carbon atoms or less with respect to 1 mole of the amino group, and (b) 20-80 parts by weight of a nonionic emulsifier consisting mainly of a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, a polyoxyethylene alkylaryl ether or a polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester. The finish composition prevents aging of a precursor during its preservation. Also provided is an acrylonitrile precursor for high-performance carbon fibers on which the finish composition is deposited.

This material may be produced by treating the substrate with an aqeuous bath containing sources of the first, second and third metals and thiocyanate.

A high-speed spinning oil composition is disclosed, which comprises following components (A) and (B):(A) an organophosphoric ester salt of formula (1):M.sup.30 X.sup.- (1)wherein M.sup.+ is an alkali metal ion, ammonium ion or an amine ion; X.sup.- is an organophosphoric ester anion of formula (2): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group of 8 to 22 carbon atoms; A is an alkylene group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; a is a whole number of 0 to 22; and b is equal to 1 or 2; and(B) an oxyalkylene polymer of formula (3):R.sub.11 --O--(AO).sub.n H (3) wherein R.sub.11 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl or alkenyl group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an acyl group of 2 to 22 carbon atoms, an aryl group, a polyhydric alcohol group or a silyl group; A is an alkylene group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; the oxyalkylene polymer has a molecular weight of 2,000 to 40,000.The high-speed spinning oil composition of the present invention is excellent in resistance to friction against metal and prevents yarn breakage and deradation in high-speed spinning.

A finishing agent for finishing fibers or fiber products is disclosed. The agent is a mixture of the following components:(a) 34 to 99% by weight of a polymer of the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a z-hybric aliphatic alcohol, z=2 to 9, m=20 to 75, n=0 to 10, p=0 to 3,(b) 0 to 55% by weight of a copolymer, obtained by copolymerization of(b.sub.1) one mole of a macromonomer of the general formula ##STR2## in which q=5 to 75, r=0 to 10, s=0 to 3, with (b.sub.2) 2 to 12 moles of a vinyl ester of the general formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHOCOR.sup.2, in which R.sup.2 is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms,(b.sub.3) 1 to 6 moles of N-vinylpyrrolidone,(b.sub.4) 0 to 6 moles of an acrylate or methacrylate ester of the general formula CH.sub.3 .dbd.CR.sup.3 --COOR.sup.4, in which R.sup.3 .dbd.H or CH.sub.3, R.sup.4 is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, the quotient of the average molecular weight of the monomer (b.sub.1) and the number of moles of the monomers (b.sub.2), (b.sub.3) and (b.sub.4) being 20 to 500and(c) 1 to 35% by weight of a compound, which is reactive with respect to the oxiran group and brings about the cross linking reaction,the sum of the components (a), (b) and (c) yielding 100% by weight.Especially preferred is a finishing agent mixture of34 to 73% by weight of component (a)24 to 55% by weight of component (b) and2 to 30% by weight of component (c)the sum of components (a), (b) and (c) yielding 100% by weight.The invention also discloses a finishing composition in the form of an aqueous solution comprising 0.1 to 10% by weight of the finishing agent as active ingredient with the remainder being water. A method for fixing fibers and fiber products with the inventive composition is also disclosed.The finishing agent and composition of the invention improve the handle, the hydrophilicity and the soil release of treated textile material. At the same time, the soilability, graying and the tendency to develop electrostatic charges are reduced.

A textile treatment composition comprises a water insoluble quaternary ammonium salt and a non-ionic surfactant containing at least one long-chain alkyl or fatty acid substituent and a hydrophilic group. The quaternary ammonium compound preferably has three large alkyl substituents of at least carbon atoms each and the surfactant may be selected from phosphine oxides, sulphoxides, or tertiary amine oxides, especially the latter. The compositions may be diluted with water and applied to textile materials especially wool, to give antistatic properties thereto. Compositions of the invention have lower soiling propensity than hitherto available compositions and they may therefore be applied to finished carpets, either in the piece or in situ applications.

Electrically conducting fibers are prepared by introducing cyanic groups into a synthetic or natural starting fiber and then subjecting the fiber to a heat treatment with a copper compound, a reducing agent capable of reducing bivalent copper ions to monovalent copper ions, and a sulfur-containing compound capable of discharging a sulfur atom or sulfur ion for reaction with monovalent copper ions adsorbed by the fiber so that copper sulfide is impregnated into the fibers. Heat treatment with the sulfur-containing compound can be simultaneous with or separate from heat treatment with the copper compound and reducing agent. The electrically conducting fibers of the present invention have excellent conductivity, improved washability and are not plagued by the problem of static charging associated with the starting synthetic or natural fiber.
