Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may transmit a synchronization signal block (SSB) burst set including a first set of SSBs transmitted using a first codebook and a second set of SSBs transmitted using a second codebook. In some cases, the first codebook may be configured for beamforming at a first transmission distance range (e.g., for far field transmissions) and the second codebook may be configured for beamforming at a second transmission distance range (e.g., for near field transmissions). Based on transmitting the SSB burst, the base station may receive an indication of a first SSB from the first set or the second set from a user equipment (UE). The base station may then communicate messages to the UE using a transmission beam and codebook associated with the first SSB indicated by the UE.

Some wireless communications systems may support methods for selection of antenna arrays and beamforming feedback. In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may monitor for an antenna blockage condition at the UE and may select a set of antenna arrays for the UE for communications between the UE and a network entity based at least in part on whether the antenna blockage condition is detected, the set of antenna arrays selected from a multiple predetermined sets of antenna arrays of the UE. Additionally, the UE may transmit, to the network entity, a message indicative of whether the antenna blockage condition is detected and may communicate with the network entity using the set of antenna arrays in accordance with whether the antenna blockage condition is detected.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides for beam selection by a mobile device based on a sensor state of the mobile in order to mitigate hand blockage. The mobile device detects, during operation of the mobile device, a sensor state caused by a hand of an operator on the mobile device. The mobile device selects for communication, while operating in the sensor state, a refined beam set corresponding to the sensor state based on reference signals. The mobile device trains a machine learning model based on a set of training data including pairs of the sensor state and the refined beam set to select a first set of beam weights from a second set of beam weights based on a detected sensor state. The mobile device selects for communication a hand blockage state including the first set of beam weights for a current detected sensor state based on the machine learning model.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to utilizing an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), a tracking algorithm, or both, to receive, calibrate, and maintain orbital angular momentum (OAM) signaling between wireless devices. The present disclosure describes a first wireless device transmitting spatial-multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) beams to the IRS such that reflected waves from the IRS form a spatial mixture of OAM modes. The IRS may reflect such OAM modes to a second wireless device for subsequent reflection (e.g., a second IRS), reception, calibration, and optimization. For example, the second wireless device may perform pattern recognition of the concentric OAM modes (e.g., by estimating ellipse geometry) to determine the modes of the OAM signaling. The second wireless device may also perform decorrelation, where small perturbations to the elliptical OAM geometry allow the second wireless device to perform one or more optimization techniques related to the OAM signaling.

According to one or more aspects, the described apparatus includes one or more stacks of patch radiators (such as patch antennas) comprising at least a first patch radiator and a second patch radiator. The first patch radiator is associated with a low-band frequency; the second patch radiator is associated with a high-band frequency. The first patch radiator and the second patch radiator may overlap a ground plane, which may be asymmetric. Some or all patch radiators in a stack may be rotated relative to the ground plane, such that some or all edge of a patch radiator may be nonparallel with one or more edges of the ground plane. Further, each patch radiator stack may include separate feeds for each of at least two frequencies and two polarizations, and thus at least four feeds (one for each frequency/polarization combination) in total.

A first wireless device may transmit signaling to an assistive node, and the assistive node may retransmit the signaling to a second wireless device. The assistive node may be configured with a mapping between receive beams and transmit beams at the assistive node. The mapping may enable the assistive node to receive signaling using a receive beam with a first beamwidth and retransmit the signaling using a transmit beam with a second, different beamwidth.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may communicate with other network devices as part of a wireless communications system. The UE may identify a blockage corresponding to one or more antenna arrays of a set of antenna arrays based on using a first set of beam weights, which may correspond to a static beamforming codebook of the one or more antenna arrays. The UE may switch from a static beamforming codebook-based beam weight determination to a dynamic beamforming codebook-based beam weight determination. The UE may then determine a second set of beam weights to use for the one or more antenna arrays based on the dynamic beamforming codebook-based beam weight determination. The UE may then communicate using the one or more antenna arrays according to the second set of beam weights.
