    摘要: An ICPT system has a single phase power supply which energises a conductive path (13) and has an inverter (5) to provide an alternating current at an operating frequency greater than the single phase utility supply frequency in the conductive path. The inverter modulates the amplitude of the alternating current with respect to the utility supply frequency such that the amplitude of the alternating current varies. The pick-up has an energy storage element (26) to provide a continuous supply of power to a load (27) irrespective of the varying amplitude of the alternating current in the conductive path.

    摘要: The present invention provides a system for controlling one or more operating unites in an inductive power transfer (IPT) system. Each operating unit includes a pick-up coil that takes power from a primary conductor or track over an air gap. The operating unit is controlled by frequency modulating the primary conductor power supply to send a control instruction which is decoded by the operating unit. The instruction is decoded by generating a signal using a local oscillator in the operating unit and using the signal to detect changes in the frequency of the current in the primary conductor. Such a system can be used, for example, to control inductively powered road-studs that include a light source for controlling traffic on a roadway. A narrow band modulated data transmission system and method for controlling an operating unit are also provided.

    摘要: An electric induction motor can be given a kick start without excessive current drain on the supply by first connecting a unidirectional supply to a winding of the motor to build up a stationary rotor flux and then applying a starting current to another winding of the motor to produce a stator flux at an appropriate angle (between 0.degree. and 180.degree.) with the stationary rotor flux. Once the motor has begun accelerating the normal running supply can be connected. This starting current may be derived from a capacitance which is charged up during the period of establishing the stationary rotor flux.

    摘要: An inductively coupled power distribution system for moving vehicles, in which resonating primary circuits to distribute power for resonating secondary circuits to collect and use in an optimized manner. In order to have all circuits resonating at substantially the same frequency, devices which detect and adjust resonating components are used, such as a frequency drift compensator in which the present frequency is compared to a reference voltage and causes a driver to be ON or OFF accordingly. Switches are driven CLOSED or OPEN respectively and when CLOSED, supplementary capacitors are included with a main capacitor in a primary resonant circuit. Dithering or pulsed control provides a continuous control of resonance, as the system takes some milliseconds to respond.
