摘要: An upholstering apparatus is provided including a frame, a work-supporting plate operably mounted on the frame including a nest configured to support a sheet of upholstery material, especially fabric, and a substrate. A clamp on the frame is configured to rubbingly press the substrate against the upholstering material. In a first embodiment, a plurality of edge fold assemblies are located around the nest, each including a first subassembly having an edge fold blade operably attached to the work-supporting plate, and a second subassembly operably attached to the clamp for engaging the edge fold blade. A first actuator is operably connected to the edge fold blade to extend the blade into contact with the edge of the upholstery material to press the edge of the upholstery material against the substrate, and a second actuator is operably connected to the clamp to press the edge fold blade against the upholstery material edge and the substrate for two dimensional complex movement as the edge fold blade is moved around onto the back surface of the substrate. A controller attached to the actuators controls the sequential actuation of the actuators so that the upholstering apparatus is automatically operated for optimal performance. In a second embodiment, heaters are movably connected to the clamp to heat a strip along a back edge of a polymeric structural member to create a fluidized film on the back surface so that, when edge fold blades press a sheet of material against the back edge, the fluidized film of bonds the sheet of material to the structural member as the fluidized film cools.

摘要: The invention is an improved membrane press, and method of elevating a workpiece above the supporting surface of a work base. The membrane press includes a work base having a supporting surface for carrying the workpiece, and a foil-pressing frame positioned above the workpiece for heating and applying the laminating foil to the workpiece. The improvement in the membrane press includes a plurality of workpiece-lifting pedestals residing substantially beneath the supporting surface of the work base. A piston is located beneath each pedestal, and responds to the placement of the workpiece onto the supporting surface of the work base. The piston imparts an upward force on certain ones of the pedestals residing adjacent to and beneath the workpiece to raise the pedestals and workpiece upwardly above the supporting surface of the work base. The raised pedestals permit the top surface, corners, and peripheral borders of the elevated workpiece to be laminated.

摘要: A covered article such as an automotive trim panel comprises a substrate having a front surface to be covered, a back surface and a plurality of holes extending through it for vacuum drawing a trim cover stock against the front surface. The substrate has sets of parallel saw-tooth holder grooves in a peripheral margin of the back surface adjacent to an edge of the substrate for mechanically interlocking with marginal portions of trim cover stock and transverse manifold grooves that communicate with the holder grooves. An adhesive is applied to the front surface and the peripheral margin and the substrate is supported on a vacuum buck so that the peripheral margin overhangs the buck and the manifold grooves communicate with a vacuum source of the buck. The trim cover stock is drawn against the front surface of the substrate and a marginal portion of the trim cover stock is simultaneously drawn against the peripheral margin of the back surface by vacuum to wrap the trim cover stock around the edge of the substrate.

摘要: A method for manufacturing a pressure container having opposite dome ends with different opening diameters, comprising double-stepped windings involving a primary winding carried out at a small winding angle in a polar winding manner, for forming a primary form on a mandrel provided with bosses having different diameters and a secondary winding carried out at a large winding angle in a helical winding manner, for forming a secondary form on the primary form. The polar winding is carried out under the condition that a metal inserter having a diameter similar to that of the smaller boss is mounted to the larger boss, to be protruded axially outwardly of the larger boss. The helical winding is carried out under the condition that an inserter having a diameter similar to that of the larger boss is mounted to the smaller boss, to be protruded axially outwardly of the smaller boss

摘要: The present invention involves a fabric craft article and an associated method and kit for producing making the same. The disclosed fabric craft article comprises a substrate having a design depicted in the surface thereof by scored channels or grooves extending into the surface of the substrate, which design is defined by discrete design sections each having a predetermined shape and size; a discontinuous padding layer carried by the substrate; and in turn a discontinuous fabric layer which secures the padding layer to the substrate. The padding layer is defined by discrete padding sections, each of which corresponds to the predetermined shape and size of a different one of the design sections. The discontinuous fabric layer overlies the padding layer, and is defined by a plurality of discrete fabric sections, each of which corresponds in shape to the predetermined shape of one of the design sections, but is of a size larger than that of the corresponding design section such that the peripheral edges of each fabric section extends beyond the peripheral edges of the corresponding design section in each lateral dimension. The corresponding padding and fabric sections are located in registration with the corresponding design sections and the peripheral edges of the fabric sections are adhesively tucked into the scored channels or grooves which define the design sections to thereby adhesively secure the padding and fabric sections to the substrate. The disclosed kit includes all of the necessary material and a tool for construction a fabric craft article of a predetermined design.

摘要: A process is disclosed for manufacturing a protective skin for resurfacing reusable beverage containers. First, the peripheral surface of a cylindrical beverage container is measured and recorded, the measurements being used as a template for forming the skin from the substrate. Second, a suitable thermoplastic substrate is chosen such as scratch resistant vinyl or LEXAN.RTM.. Third, a graphic image or product name can be back printed on the substrate. Fourth, an adhesive backing is applied to the printed side of the substrate. And fifth, the substrate is formed into the desired shape by an apparatus using the recorded measurements of the beverage container. The resulting chemical and abrasion resistant protective skin may then easily be applied by any consumer wishing to cover the peripheral surface of a reusable beverage container that may have become damaged through use or misuse or to apply custom graphics and/or a logo thereto.

摘要: The apparatus includes a first female mold member defining a mold cavity for receiving a plastic skin or layer. A second mold member or slide is positioned with a surface thereon contiguous with the surface of the mold cavity. The surface of the second mold member receives and holds thereon a portion of the plastisol skin extending from the mold cavity. A third mold member, such as a mold core, positions a rigid insert in the mold cavity with an insert surface or edge adjacent the portion of the plastisol skin on the second mold member. The second mold member includes passages for directing fluid pressure against the portion of skin thereon to fold it over the adjacent insert edge. A fourth mold member, such as a mold lid, is movable toward the second and third mold members for pressing the folded-over skin against the insert during foam formation between the skin and insert.

摘要: A surface layer is applied to an elongated, deformable hollow profile. The profile originally has at least one wall portion which is curved as seen in cross section. The profile is advanced to a device for applying the surface layer and pressed so as to deform the curved wall portion into a shape which, as seen in cross section, is substantially straight. The surface layer is applied to this wall portion while it is in the substantially straight shape, and the profile is then at least substantially returned to its original shape.
