摘要: A method and apparatus stabilize a vascular wall or vascular tissue during a surgical procedure. A stiffening member is inserted in a vessel to be accessed. The stiffening member is formed of a material having sufficient rigidity to significantly dampen movement of the vessel caused by normal heart action.

摘要: The invention provides a device having first and second balloons. Each of the first and second balloons communicates with an inflation lumen. A differential pressure gauge communicates with both inflation lumens. Each of the inflation lumens also communicates independently with a pump for inflating the balloon. The pressure gauge may include a shut-off valve for terminating inflation in the second balloon when the pressure within the first balloon exceeds the pressure in the second balloon. The pressure gauge may also include a pressure limiter. Methods of using the devices for measuring diameter and pressure of a balloon occluder deployed in a vessel or body cavity are disclosed.

摘要: An atherectomy device for treating obstructions in vessels or small openings in the body, includes a rotatable ablator tip which is guided to the obstruction in a reduced diameter configuration, expanded and rotated to remove the obstruction, and contracted to remove the device from the body. The atherectomy device may be combined with a balloon angioplasty device employing either a fixed or variable diameter rotatable abrasive burr and an angioplasty balloon disposed on the distal end of the catheter proximal to the atherectomy device. The atherectomy device may also be combined with a stent implantation device employing either a fixed or variable diameter rotatable abrasive burr and a stent with balloon catheter disposed on the distal end of its catheter proximal to the atherectomy device.

摘要: A vascular dilatation device for enlarging a flow passage in an obstruction in a vessel carrying flowing blood. A flexible cylindrical dilatation member having first and second ends is placed in the flow passage in the obstruction. An intermediate portion lies between the first and second ends. The flexible cylindrical dilatation member also has an interior flow passage with a diameter and a longitudinally extending central axis extending therethrough. The diameter of the flow passage is variable with movement of the first and second ends relative to each other along the longitudinally extending central axis from a contracted to an expanded condition. A control mechanism causes relative axial movement between the first and second ends towards each other from an extended position to a contracted position. The control mechanism includes an inner flexible elongate tubular member between the first and second ends of the flexible cylindrical dilatation member. The inner flexible elongate tubular member is sufficiently rigid and causes elongation of the cylindrical dilatation member to decrease its diameter and to advance the cylindrical dilatation member through the obstruction in the vessel while preventing axial contraction of the cylindrical dilatation member.

摘要: A balloon dilatation catheter for the dilatation of a prostatic urethra having a reinforcing element extending through the elongated shaft of the catheter to prevent significant elongation or failure of the catheter and a traction member for assisting in the resistance to substantial tensile stresses. The balloon dilatation catheter also includes an expandable means between the balloon and catheter shaft to extend the length of the balloon when it is deflated. The extension of the deflated balloon prevents the balloon from bunching up and interfering with the withdrawal of the balloon through the working channel of the cystoscopic sheath upon the completion of the dilatation. The catheter has a marker for easy visualization so that the balloon can be positioned reliably and a tip construction so that the catheter can be advanced into the bladder safely.

摘要: A stent delivery system having an expandable stent in a contracted condition positioned on an expandable member, such as an inflatable balloon, disposed on the distal portion of an elongated catheter body. A guidewire extends through an inner lumen within the elongated catheter body and out its distal end. A tubular protective sheath is secured by its distal end to the portion of the guidewire which extends out of the distal end of the catheter body and fits over the rolled up stent mounted on the expandable member on the distal end of the catheter body. The catheter assembly is advanced to a desired location within a patient's body lumen, such as the patient's arterial system, with the sheath in place over the stent. Once in proper position, the guidewire is advanced distally in order to remove the attached sheath and completely expose the stent. The expandable member on the catheter is expanded to expand the stent. The stent is preferably self-locking in the expanded condition so that the expanded expandable member can be contracted and the catheter can be removed therefrom.
