Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for encoding and decoding motion information are provided. In an embodiment, a method of decoding motion information includes obtaining, from a bitstream, a resolution index indicating a motion vector resolution for inter-predicting a current block, a reference index of the current block, and prediction direction information of the current block. The method further includes determining a reference picture of the current block. The method further includes determining whether a prediction direction of the current block is unidirectional prediction in an L0 or L1 direction or bidirectional prediction. The method further includes determining a motion vector resolution set including one or more selectable motion vector resolutions. The method further includes determining a motion vector based on the prediction direction, according to the motion vector resolution indicated by the resolution index from among the motion vector resolution set. The method further includes reconstructing an image using the motion vector.
