In one case, a data processing system includes a data detector circuit configured to apply a data detection algorithm to a detector input to yield a second detected output, and a data decoder circuit configured to apply a data decoding algorithm to a decoder input to yield a decoded output. The decoder input is derived from an interim data set calculated as a combination of at least a first detected output and the second detected output.
