Abstract:
A single particle penetration phosphor employs La.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb particles as a core particle having a thin layer of La.sub.2 O.sub.2 SO.sub.4 :Tb formed thereon by oxidation to provide a barrier which must be penetrated by excitation electrons to produce narrow bandwidth green spectral emission from the particle. The thin barrier is in turn coated by a layer of YVO.sub.4 :Eu particles which produce narrow bandwidth red spectral emission upon electron excitation. The barrier layer increases the voltage turn on characteristic of the green carrier host thereby causing the electron irradiated phosphor to radiate in the red spectrum for low voltages and in the green spectrum for higher voltages. Additionally, methods are disclosed for synthesizing the above single particle penetration phosphor.

Abstract:
A variable color cathodoluminescent manganese activated zinc silicate phosphor is disclosed. The zinc silicate host is modified by the addition of small amounts of aluminum and phosphorus. Variation in the current density of the cathode ray excitation produces emission varying from green to blue. The method of making the phosphor and a cathode ray tube device employing the phosphor is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A cathode-ray tube has a phosphor screen which is made by using a mixture of a long persistent phosphor and a short persistent phosphor. A light emission from the short persistent phosphor has a spike figure, so that a light pen can have sufficient sensitivity therefor, and a light emission from the long persistent phosphor is continuous within the one cycle period of the frame frequency, so that flicker is not noticeable.

Abstract:
To synthesize a particulate phosphor, an intimate dry mixture of phosphor-producing compounds is pressed, as by uniaxial or isostatic pressing, to a self-supporting preform of the desired shape and to a prescribed density. Then, the preform is heated to a reaction temperature and cooled to produce a friable cake of phosphor particles. The cake is broken apart, and the phosphor particles are washed and dried.
