    Abstract: A brake device comprises: an outer race having a cylindrical inner peripheral surface; a plurality of brake shoes disposed at a radially inner side of the outer race and arranged in a circumferential direction, each brake shoe having a pair of brake surfaces facing the inner peripheral surface and configured to be contactable with the inner peripheral surface and an inside surface facing radially inward; an output-side rotary member disposed at a radially inner side of the brake shoes, having an opposed surface provided at an outer periphery thereof and facing the inside surface; and an input-side rotary member configured to contact the brake shoes in the circumferential direction and thereby capable of imparting a rotary torque to the brake shoes. The brake shoe has a support surface disposed between the brake surfaces and configured to be contactable with the inner peripheral surface.

    Abstract: A drum brake assembly includes a brake spider having a central aperture configured to receive an axle extending therethrough and first and second brake shoes. Each of the first and second brakes shoes has a first end pivotally coupled to the brake spider. First and second cam followers are disposed at corresponding second ends of the first and second brake shoes. A camshaft has a shaft extending through a camshaft aperture in the brake spider and disposed along a rotational axis and a cam disposed at a first end of the shaft and in engagement with the first and second cam followers. An electric motor has an output shaft coupled to the camshaft. A controller is configured to drive the electric motor to cause rotation of the camshaft and move the first and second brake shoes between positions of engagement and disengagement with an associated braking surface.

    Abstract: An expanding device for actuating one of the brake shoes of a drum brake includes a body of revolution and transmission bodies actuated by the body of revolution via ball track ramps. A spacer body is located between two partial bodies of the body of revolution, the spacer body guided by an adjustment spring keeping the partial bodies at the respectively reached distance. The spacer body is screwed onto a pin on the first partial body. A readjustment nut ensures that, when the two partial bodies are pushed apart, the spacer body rotates on the pin and moves away from a supporting surface on a partition of the second partial body. Upon renewed actuation of the brakes, the readjustment nut is guided such that the spacer body bears against the second partial body, but takes up a different position on the pin, the position corresponding to the air clearance readjustment.

    Abstract: A method that includes steps of measuring voltage and current of the parking brake system during creation of a parking brake apply or release of the parking brake apply. The method includes estimating motor position, motor speed, and a current draw of the motor using the measured voltage and the measured current. The method includes estimating a parking brake force with the estimated motor position. The method includes correcting the estimated motor position, motor speed, and the current draw of the motor with the measured current, and/or correcting the estimated parking brake force with the corrected estimated motor position, corrected motor, and the corrected current draw of the motor. The method includes determining the creation of the parking brake apply with the corrected parking brake force and/or determining release of the parking brake apply with the corrected estimated motor position.
