摘要: The present invention was developed to provide an improved process for retaining the substantially pristine state of glass articles, particularly thin-walled, lightweight glass containers. In particular, this invention relates to a process of maintaining the strength of glass containers formed from molten glass gobs as encountered especially in conventional press-and-blow or blow-and-blow equipment of individual section glass machines, the process comprising initially forming a formed portion from each of said gobs, fully forming the remaining portions of the containers from said gobs, grasping the thus-formed containers only at the initially formed portion and transferring them to a cradle device whereby said containers are held in spaced relationship to each other and held free of contacting any solid or unsmooth surface including stoplates, bearing surfaces, conveying belts and the like, partially cooling immediately following the formation of said containers, moving said cradle device with the accompanying containers to an annealing zone whereby the containers including the bottom walls thereof are subjected to a controlled rate of cooling therein, and finally rapidly cooling said containers to ambient temperature while still being gripped only at the initially formed portions thereof.

摘要: A glass forming machine of the rotary table type which utilizes a plurality of individual forming units each of which has a plurality of blank molds and a plurality of blow molds whereby a plurality of glassware articles may be made in a single unit during a cycle. The machine also incorporates an improved neck ring structure, a neck ring quick disconnect, a unique rotating bottom plate structure, a unique blow mold spraying and an improved blow head operating mechanism and an approved structural arrangement. Additionally, a unique delivery system for delivering gobs of glass to the blank molds of the individual forming units is disclosed. The takeout mechanism and transfer mechanism also have unique characteristics.

摘要: A glassware handling system transfers formed articles of glassware from a blow station of a glassware forming machine to conveying means and comprises two heads each of which is capable of releasably holding a plurality of articles of glassware. The heads are supported for reciprocatory movement in a carriage which is movable to allow the heads to remove the glassware from the blow station in turn, whereby the transfer of formed articles of glassware from the blow station to the conveying means is shared between the two heads, thereby enabling a high rate of transfer to be achieved.

摘要: A substantially continuous ribbon of a thermoplastic material supporting a plurality of depending and equally spaced-apart articles or bodies and moving in a generally linear direction through a first path of travel at a relatively high rate of speed is periodically fractured at equally spaced-apart points along the length thereof to successively provide a series or succession of ribbon lengths each supporting an equal number of the pendent articles, and successive ones of the ribbon lengths are handled and delivered to ribbon-length receiving and transfer means without contacting any of the pendent articles or bodies of such ribbon lengths. The thermoplastic ribbon may, for example, be a ribbon of a glassy material from which the pendent articles or bodies are integrally formed by glass forming apparatus while the ribbon moves through said first path of travel, and the apparatus for fracturing, handling and delivering the ribbon lengths includes a plurality of ribbon-length pickup devices which are located in a second path of travel generally collinear with said first path of travel and each of which are alternately moved and actuated by cam means to follow and pickup successive ones of the moving ribbon lengths, move each such length into clearance of the next following ribbon length, and deliver each picked-up length to said ribbon-length receiving and transfer means.

摘要: Method and apparatus for forming a finish on a glass container on a production line. Glass containers having an integrally formed moil portion on the upper end of the container body portion are loaded in sequence in an upright position into uniformly spaced chucks on a continuously moving endless conveyor. The containers are carried through a first heating zone while being driven in rotation to achieve even thermal exposure of the containers. During transit of the first heating zone, the containers are passed around a vertical end turn to orient the containers in an inverted position, with the moil porion lowermost, as they pass along a horizontal lower run of the endless conveyor. During their transit of the lower run, the containers pass between a linear row of opposed burners which direct a high intensity row of flame jets against a narrow porion of the container body to first thermally sever the moil portion from the body and to subsequently from a beaded finish on the container. The containers are rotated during their passage through this set of burners at a controlled rate to achieve the desired finish formation. The finish is subsequently inspected and containers with malformed finishes are promptly ejected at the inspection station are subsequently lowered partially into the pockets of a synchronized pocket conveyor, the container chucks being opened when the container is partially inserted into the pocket to drop the container the remaining distance into the packet.
