摘要: A vertical individual section (I.S.) machine for manufacturing glass containers is disclosed in which parisons made in parison molds are lowered into blow molds located under the parison molds without being inverted, where they are blown into glass containers. Optionally, reheat shrouds may be located vertically intermediate the blank molds and the blow molds to reheat the parisons prior to them being blown. The vertical I.S. machine may have multiple sections that are located close adjacent each other, with each section potentially having multiple blank and blow molds.

摘要: In an embodiment of the invention, a tong assembly for handling glass articles such as bottles, jars, and the like during the manufacture of same, utilizes replaceable matched pairs of components that vertically seat and are captured on features on the pair of tongs. The components may be in an interlocking, gravity restrained engagement and that may be replaced by lifting the components out of their interlocking engagement, removing them and replacing same by lowering the replacement components into the interlocking engagement whereby the replacement components are then captured and constrained by pairs of engagement surfaces. Lowering may be by lowering the entirety of the insert or lowering a portion such as the component is rotated into seating engagement. The components may be inserts held in place with the resiliency of spring clips that are themselves retained on the inserts also by the spring clips resiliency. Matched pairs of components are movable toward and away from one another as the tongs are closed and opened for grasping and releasing the upper portions of glass articles such as bottles and jars. The matched pair of components may be inserts for engaging the upper portion of the glass articles, the inserts captured within interlocking portions of takeout jaws. The matched pair of components may be protective covers.

摘要: A glassware forming machine of the individual section type comprising a parison-forming station (10), an article-forming station (14), parison transferring means operable to transfer parisons to the article-forming station, and article removing means operable to remove articles from the article-forming station. The parison transferring means comprises a carriage (100), parison gripping means (114) mounted on the carriage, and servo-controlled drive means (136) operable to move the carriage (100) to and from the article-forming station (14). The article removing means comprises a further carriage (210), article gripping means (226) mounted on the carriage (210), and drive means (218, 220) operable to return the carriage (210) to the article-forming station (14). The carriages (100 and 210) are so aligned that, as the carriage (100) moves to the article-forming station (14), it pushes the further carriage (210) away therefrom. Thus, both carriages (100 and 210), when carrying hot glass, are moved with servo-control.
