摘要: A method for repairing a bone defect of a patient includes providing a ceramic scaffold configured for filling the bone defect, loading the scaffold with growth factor transduced cells incorporating a gene that encodes a growth factor essential for bone formation, placing the ceramic scaffold with the growth factor transduced cells in or across the bone defect, and stabilizing the ceramic scaffold with the growth factor transduced cells in the patient until the bone defect is healed. An assembly for repairing a bone defect includes a ceramic scaffold configured for spanning the bone defect and a culture of live growth factor transduced cells incorporating a gene that encodes a growth factor essential for bone formation loaded onto the ceramic scaffold.

摘要: An implantable device for providing a therapeutic agent includes a container configured to contain multiple cells capable of producing the therapeutic agent within an interior region of the container. The container defines first pores defined by an interior wall portion of the container and second pores defined by an exterior wall portion of the container. The first pores have a first average size that (i) allows passage of the therapeutic agent and oxygen through the first pores and (ii) prevents passage of immune cells through the first pores. The second pores have a second average size that is larger than the first average size, and the second pores are sized to promote vascularization and oxygen transfer along the exterior wall portion.

摘要: The invention relates to a surface gradient cross-linked method of a ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and the application thereof. The surface gradient crosslinked method of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene includes a n ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene surface photoinitiator diffusion step and an ultraviolet light irradiation crosslinking step. In this method, the photoinitiator is diffused deeply into the surface of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, the body material shows a gradient cross-linking from the surface to the inside after ultraviolet irradiation so that the whole bulk has a high toughness and the surface there of has a high wear resistance.

In some aspects, a nerve tissue regeneration implant article includes an exterior shell; a plurality of fascicle structures disposed in an interior region of the exterior shell, where each fascicle structure includes a hollow region between a proximal end and a distal end, such that a fascicle structure is configured to facilitate and guide axonal growth along at least a portion of the fascicle structure between the proximal end and the distal end; and a plurality of vascularizable passages along the exterior shell, wherein the vascularizable passages are configured to allow vascular tissue to infiltrate the implant article, such that the implant article is able to facilitate nerve regeneration by enabling exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and/or waste to axons within the plurality of fascicle structures via the vascular tissue that infiltrates the implant article through the plurality of vascularizable passages.

摘要: The present invention provides muscle-derived progenitor cells that show long-term survival following transplantation into body tissues and which can augment non-soft tissue following introduction (e.g. via injection, transplantation, or implantation) into a site of non-soft tissue (e.g. bone) when combined with a biocompatible matrix, preferably SIS. The invention further provides methods of using compositions comprising muscle-derived progenitor cells with a biocompatible matrix for the augmentation and bulking of mammalian, including human, bone tissues in the treatment of various functional conditions, including osteoporosis, Paget's Disease, osteogenesis imperfecta, bone fracture, osteomalacia, decrease in bone trabecular strength, decrease in bone cortical strength and decrease in bone density with old age.
