A process for preparing ethylene polymers by the high-pressure method comprises dissolving one or more free-radical initiators in one or more ketones of the formula I 1 where R1 and R2 are identical or different and are selected from among C1-C6-alkyl and C3-C12-cycloalkyl and R1 and R2 may also be covalently linked to one another to form a 4- to 13-membered ring, prior to the polymerization, compressing the solution, metering it into the polymerization reactor at one or more points and subsequently carrying out the polymerization at from 150 to 380null C. and from 500 to 4500 bar.

This invention comprises a method and apparatus for obtaining from air an oxygen enriched gas mixture containing at least 40 mole % nitrogen. The apparatus comprises a gas turbine, an oxygen separation unit which is in fluid communication with the turbine air compressor and means for maintaining a proper mass balance tolerance between the turbine compressor/unit and the turbine energy production unit.This invention comprises a method and apparatus for recovering large quantities of an oxygen enriched gas from the volume of a compressed air stream produced by a gas turbine by compensation of the mass loss to the energy production unit section thereof by providing means for maintaining the turbine in proper mass and thermal balance as the turbine is utilized to provide the duty/power requirements of a process which utilizes the oxygen enriched gas stream as a reactant.

A process is disclosed for catalytically converting light hydrocarbons, such as natural gas, to saturated or unsaturated higher molecular weight hydrocarbons, such as ethylene, propylene, ethyl benzene, and styrene. The process employs gaseous catalyst or a mixture of catalysts selected from hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen halides other then hydrogen fluoride, halogen other than fluorine, sulfur vapor, and/or sulfur containing hydrocarbons.

IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE PROCESS ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION THAT AS THE FREE RADICAL-FORMING POLYMERIZATION INITIATOR THERE ARE JOINTLY USED: (1) A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF AN ORGANIC PEROXIDE HAVING A HALF-LIFE TEMPERATURE OF FROM 60* TO 112*C., AND (2) A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF OXYGEN.
