Abstract: The present invention provides an autonomous calibration of a multivariate based spectroscopic system that is preferably implemented as a multivariate based spectrometer. The spectroscopic system is based on a multivariate optical element that provides a spectral weighting of an incident optical signal. Spectral weighting is performed on the basis of spatial separation of spectral components and subsequent spatial filtering by means of a spatial light modulator. Calibration of the spectroscopic system is based on a dedicated calibration segment of the spatial light modulator, whose position corresponds to a characteristic calibration or reference wavelength of the incident optical signal. Preferably, the calibration or reference wavelength is given by the wavelength of the excitation radiation generated by the optical source that serves to induce scattering processes in a volume of interest.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for catalyzing a reaction on a substrate (24) comprising, a light source (12), a micromirror (16) positioned to redirect light (14) from the light source (12) toward a substrate (24) wherein the redirected light (14) catalyzes a chemical reaction proximate a substrate (24), is disclosed. A computer (18) is connected to, and controls, the positioning of mirrors within the micromirror (16) to specifically redirect light to specific portions of a substrate. The substrate (24) can be placed in a reaction chamber (50), wherein the light (14) that is redirected by the micromirror (16) catalyzes a chemical reaction proximate a substrate (24).

Abstract: A random access monochromator is disclosed. This device has no mechanical parts and eliminates the need to scan sequentially the wavelengths of light contained in a light spectrum to select a desired wavelength or wavelengths from the spectrum. The device has high speed switching means, permits one to select multiple wavelengths and bandwidths at the same time, and has the ability to correct for non-linearity in prisms caused by their nonlinear or second order dispersion of light.

Abstract: An optical device for the spectral analysis of a light source which comprises a spectrograph assembly including a dispersive element, and a classical collimator. The spectrograph assembly supplies a complete intermediate spectrum at the object focus of the classical collimator and the classical collimator reforms, at its image focus, an image of the dispersive element. The spectrograph assembly is preferably a Czerny-Turner or other type of spectrograph comprising an entry slit, two juxtaposed concave mirrors of the same focal length and a dispersive element placed strictly in the common focal plane of the two mirrors. Most preferably, the classical collimator is the first mirror of the second, similar spectrograph assembly. The device is most advantageous in that it is readily useable for both simultaneous and sequential spectroscopy.
