    摘要: A device for use within the lumen of a catheter to move an item positioned within the lumen relatively to the catheter is disclosed. The device is formed from an elongated member positionable within the lumen and reciprocably movable relatively to the catheter. A distal end of the member is engaged with the item, and a proximate end extends outwardly from the catheter. A gripping element is attached to the elongated member at the distal end. The gripping element has a free end that extends outwardly from the elongated member. The free end of the gripping element is engageable and disengageable with the item, the item being moved when the gripping element is engaged and the elongated member is moved relatively to the catheter.

    摘要: A method and device used for treating an aneurysm or a vessel of a patient. An embolization element that is adapted to reduce or block the blood flow into the aneurysm or vessel, together with a stent connected to the embolization element, is provided. The embolization element includes an expandible member. The embolization element and the stent are introduced into the vessel leading to and communicating with the aneurysm or vessel. The embolization element is directed into the aneurysm or vessel, with the stent being located in another vessel communicating with the first vessel. In this manner, the stent becomes compressed against the inner wall of the second vessel for anchoring the embolization element. In one form of the invention, the stent comprises a helical coil and the embolization element comprises a collapsible framework.

    摘要: An occlusive implant delivery assembly includes a rapid response decoupling or detachment mechanism that does not effect significant migration of the implant during release. The assembly includes an occlusive implant device, such as an embolic coil, a pusher or device to carry the implant to the selected location, and an expandable coupling-decoupling mechanism for releasing the implant at the selected site. The mechanical construction provides rapid release times. In addition, the releasing mechanism generally operates without exerting any significant force on the implant, thereby avoiding any significant displacement of the implant during release.

    摘要: Electromechanical microstructures (microgrippers), either integrated circuit (IC) silicon-based or precision machined, to extend and improve the application of catheter-based interventional therapies for the repair of aneurysms in the brain or other interventional clinical therapies. These micromechanisms can be specifically applied to release platinum coils or other materials into bulging portions of the blood vessels also known as aneurysms. The "micro" size of the release mechanism is necessary since the brain vessels are the smallest in the body. Through a catheter more than one meter long, the micromechanism located at one end of the catheter can be manipulated from the other end thereof. The microgripper (micromechanism) of the invention will also find applications in non-medical areas where a remotely actuated microgripper or similar actuator would be useful or where micro-assembling is needed.
