    Abstract: In order to blend fuels to meet specific regulatory and industry requirements, for instance octane requirements, different octane blending components can be used. One added component includes a composition of higher aromatics content. Unfortunately, this aromatic content may increase the particulate emissions of an internal combustion engine when the high aromatic fuel is combusted in that engine. As explained herein, reducing the aromatics content and replacing that octane increasing requirement with an alternative octane enhancer results in a formulated fuel that will have lower particulate emissions in the real-world driving of that engine as compared with a fuel having higher aromatic content.

    Abstract: A method and system uses a constrained set of indexed samples to identify a next generation population of samples that exhibits a more desirable signal characteristic. The invention generates an intermediate set of indexed samples which are subjected to a fitness function and next generation calculations to produce next generation indexes for the next population of samples. The next generation indexes population of samples is further constrained over initial indexes for generating a more desirable signal characteristic. In dynamic spectrum access networks having OFDM components, the interference between collections of overlay and underlay signals is adaptively controlled based on the composite PAPR. In an example, the total out-of-band interference for the collection of overlay and underlay signals for all samples of the population are reduced.

    Abstract: A passive radio-frequency identification (RFID) system has an RFID reader that communicates with and provides power to an RFID tag. The RFID tag has an RFID integrated circuit chip that contains a memory device for storing information to be transmitted to the RFID reader, and energy storage device that stores energy for powering the integrated circuit chip. In the event that the RFID tag is activated during periods when the RFID integrated circuit chip is not receiving sufficient energy from the RFID reader, then either an energy storage device is provided to allow the activation event to be recorded at the RFID integrated circuit chip, or a memory device is provided that senses and records the activation event and communicates this activation event once power has been restored.
