Abstract:
In order to permit a video telephone call to be set up between at least one first video telephone terminal and at least one second video telephone terminal in a telephone network, a service center is adapted to connect with the first and second terminals over the telephone network. A telephone call is first set up between the first terminal and the second terminal in order to exchange availability signals between the terminals to seek availability to hold a video telephone call therebetween. If such availability is confirmed, the telephone call between the first and second terminals is released, and telephone calls are established between the service center and the first and second terminals, whereby the first and second terminals are connected to one another over the telephone network via the service center. A video telephone call is then set up between the first and the second terminals via the service center.
Abstract:
In one aspect of the invention, audio and video user data are separated. The audio user data is conducted via a TDM loop, where it is tapped and the video user data is fed to the recipient via the packet network, the separated audio and video user data are then combined again.
Abstract:
A method for verifying a purported location of a wide area network user is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of receiving information from a user via a wide area network, including a purported geographical location of the network user. A first network address from which the information is received is recoded, and an access code is generated and recorded. The access code is broadcast in a defined region that includes the purported geographical location of the user. A user access code is then received via the wide area network from the user. The user access code is compared with the access code broadcast in a defined region, and the first network address is compared to a second network address from which the user access code is received. If the codes and addresses match, the geographical location of the user is considered verifies and the user may be validated. Various methods for broadcasting the access code and various systems for implementing the method are disclosed.
Abstract:
A first device uses a secondary communication channel to send its public IP address to a second device to setup point-to-point communication over a primary communication channel, such as a public computer network. The secondary channel may be a public switched telephone network, a circuit-switched voice channel in cellular network, a packet-switched voice channel in cellular network, a conventional VoIP service, a text or multimedia channel in a cellular network, a data channel in a cable television or a satellite television network, or a radio frequency channel. Once the connection over the pubic computer network has been established, the first and the second devices exchange data packets carrying text, voice, video, or other data.
Abstract:
Provided is an apparatus and method for performing a video call connection in a mobile terminal with a video call function. The method includes receiving a video call connection request message from the mobile terminal and detecting the phone number of a called party for a video call from the received video call connection request message, determining whether the called party is a video call service subscriber, and, if the called party is not a video call service subscriber, transmitting to the mobile terminal a message indicating that the called party is not a video call service subscriber. The cause of the video call connection failure is subdivided and information of the precise failure cause is provided to the mobile terminal. Accordingly, a user of the mobile terminal can know the precise cause of the video call connection failure.
Abstract:
A presence aware communications system, comprising a messaging system configured to perform at least one of the following operations: (a) provide a subscriber's communication device with information regarding an incoming contact during a messaging session between the subscriber's communication device and the messaging system; (b) provide the subscriber's communication device with a text message containing information regarding one or more messages when a notification is received that the subscriber's communication device is available; (c) provide the subscriber's communication device with a text message relating to a voice message from a different first party received by the messaging system; (d) in response to the subscriber's communication device requesting a connection with at least one of an inputted telephone number and address, provide the subscriber's communication device with a notification respecting at least one eligible message from a second party associated with the at least one of an inputted telephone number and address; (e) while a contact between the subscriber and a different third party is in progress, provide the subscriber's communication device with information respecting the at least one eligible message from the third party; (o) transform an audio messaging session between the messaging system and the communication device of a contacting party into a graphical user interface-based audio session; and (g) transform the audio messaging session into a session having a video channel or both audio and video channels.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for inter-person contacting allowing a communication to be set up between at least two users (client1, client2) at the request of one thereof, by using a presence status of each user, characterized in that said method comprises a contact request step (E1) in which a user parameters at least one contacting action between said user and at least one other user, and a step (E6) for automatic activation of said contacting action in accordance with the parameters set by said user when the presence status associated with the users concerned by said contacting action allows contacting to be made.
Abstract:
Methods and systems providing access to integrated communications services are disclosed. A notification of a call to a user is received at a device associated with the user, the device being connected to a data network and including a base unit, a handset, and a user interface, wherein the device is determined based on retrieved data corresponding to the user, and the retrieved data was retrieved using information pertaining to the call. Input from the user indicative of a response to the notification is also received at the device. Response information reflective of the response to the notification is then sent to the server, wherein the server instructs a service control point to connect the call based on the response to the notification.
Abstract:
A mobile communication terminal for supporting video calling, and a method for performing a video call by efficiently encoding data and transmitting the data. The method comprises constructing a multiplex code table having a plurality of multiplex codes for multiplexing data, selecting an optimum multiplex code among the plurality of multiplex codes of the multiplex table, encoding data to be transmitted by the selected multiplex code, and transmitting the encoded data. Accordingly, a synchronization inconsistency between audio data and video data can be decreased, and a network state can be maintained as an optimum state.
Abstract:
A sending conversant uses a sending communication device to transmit voice and body state information over a communication network to a receiving communication device used by a receiving conversant. Model based rendering is used such that the model is transferred from the sending conversant to the receiving conversant along with the transmitted data. The sending device includes means for sensing the body state of the sending conversant, collected as body state measurements. The sending communication device also includes means for detecting speech uttered by the sending conversant, such as an audio microphone. The detected speech and body state measurements are encoded in a temporally synchronized manner and multiplexed into a communication signal which is transmitted to the receiving device.
