Abstract: A video encoding system in which pixel data is decomposed into frequency bands prior to encoding. The frequency bands are organized into blocks that are provided to a block-based encoder that encodes the blocks and passes the encoded blocks to a wireless interface that packetizes the blocks for transmittal over a wireless connection. The encoder may categorize the encoded frequency bands into multiple priority levels, and may tag each frequency block with metadata indicating the frequency band represented in the block, the priority of the frequency band, and timing information. The wireless interface may then transmit or drop packets according to the priority levels of the encoded frequency blocks in the packets and/or according to the timing information of the frequency blocks in the packets.

Abstract: An image decoding method and apparatus according to an embodiment may extract, from a bitstream, a quantization coefficient generated through core transformation, secondary transformation, and quantization; generate an inverse-quantization coefficient by performing inverse quantization on the quantization coefficient; generate a secondary inverse-transformation coefficient by performing secondary inverse-transformation on a low frequency component of the inverse-quantization coefficient, the secondary inverse-transformation corresponding to the secondary transformation; and perform core inverse-transformation on the secondary inverse-transformation coefficient, the core inverse-transformation corresponding to the core transformation.

Abstract: A coding apparatus capable of improving coding efficiency without calculating a PSNR that is coding distortion. A conversion unit obtains subbands by applying wavelet transform to image data. A control unit decides quantization parameters of the respective subbands within quantization parameter ranges corresponding to image quality modes of the image data. A quantization unit quantizes the subbands obtained by the conversion unit based on the respective quantization parameters decided by the control unit. In one example, the method includes applying a transformation to a video dataset containing a plurality of video samples, to produce a plurality of sparse vectors in a first dimensional space, wherein each sparse vector of the plurality of sparse vectors corresponds to one video sample of the plurality of video samples, and multiplying each sparse vector of the plurality of sparse vectors by a transformation matrix to produce a plurality of reduced vectors in a second dimensional space, wherein the dimension of the second dimensional space is smaller than a dimension of the first dimensional space, and wherein the plurality of reduced vectors in the second dimensional space hides information about the video dataset while preserving relational properties between the plurality of video samples.

Abstract: An image encoding apparatus includes a plane conversion unit which generates, from image data of one frame of the moving image data, a plurality of planes each formed from a single component, a frequency conversion unit which generates a plurality of subbands for each plane by performing frequency conversion for each plane, a quantization unit which quantizes coefficients in each subband using a quantization parameter, an encoder which encodes the quantized coefficient data, and a control unit which updates the quantization parameter so that a code amount of the encoded data becomes equal to a target code amount set for each plane. The control unit updates the quantization parameter by accumulating a difference between the target code amount set for each plane and a generated code amount of each plane, and distributing the accumulated differences to the plurality of planes.

Abstract: Examples of the present disclosure relate to methods for processing image data. In one such example, data elements are received defining a portion of a line of pixels of an image, the image comprising one or more lines of pixels definable by one or more respective sets of data elements. In some cases, a transform operation is performed on the data elements to obtain a plurality of binary transform coefficients, wherein the transform operation is performed independently of data elements defining any other line of pixels. The plurality of transform coefficients is encoded as a sequence of tiered bit-layers, each bit-layer in the sequence of bit-layers comprising a set of bits corresponding to a given bit position in each of the plurality of transform coefficients. The encoded plurality of transform coefficients is output.

Abstract: Image block transmission includes reading an image block from a downhole sensor. Based on the image block, a set of formation features attributes for the image block are detected. The set of formation features attributes describe a structural property of a subsurface formation. Based on the set of formation feature attributes, a wavelet transform function is modified to obtain a modified wavelet transform function. The modified wavelet transform function is applied to the image block to obtain a set of wavelet transform coefficients for the image block. The image block transmission further includes generating an encoded bit stream comprising the set of formation features attributes and the set of wavelet transform coefficients for the image block, and transmitting the encoded bit stream.
