Abstract: A micromachined fluid handling device having improved properties. The valve is made of reinforced parylene. A heater heats a fluid to expand the fluid. The heater is formed on unsupported silicon nitride to reduce the power. The device can be used to form a valve or a pump. Another embodiment forms a composite silicone/parylene membrane. Another feature uses a valve seat that has concentric grooves for better sealing operation.

Abstract: An evaporative burner that includes an igniter assembly, a swirler, an evaporation chamber, and a reverse throat. The reverse throat has raised ends that protrude into the evaporation chamber. The reverse throat in combination with the evaporation chamber and the swirler, facilitate the recirculation of air in the evaporation chamber such that a flame is stabilized near the evaporation chamber walls. This flame gradually evaporates the fuel in the lining of the evaporation chamber. The fuel-air mixture results in a steady and uniformly distributed flame in the combustion chamber. This flame can heat uniformly the walls of the combustion chamber, and thus be applicable for high efficiency and low emissions applications. Furthermore, this burner can start and reach full burner power rapidly.

Abstract: A Stirling engine assembly for a DCHP system. A Stirling engine (1) is suspended from a mounting frame (5) by a plurality of tension springs (6). An annular absorber mass (2) surrounds the Stirling engine and is suspended from the engine on a plurality of resilient members (3) arranged asymmetrically about the main axis. The asymmetric arrangement is provided by members of different stiffnesses, or irregular spacing of the members. The absorber mass (2) itself may be reduced adjacent to the resilient members.

Abstract: An engine has a piston with plural end faces that compresses combustible mixtures on both sides of the piston and in each end of a closed cylinder containing the piston. The cylinders are fully enclosed with provision for a power takeoff rod to pass therethrough. Each instant closed cylinder with the dual end faced piston can produce power with each and every single stroke of its reciprocating travel. Abstract: An integrated circuit device includes a substrate. Drive circuitry is arranged on the substrate. A plurality of micro-electromechanical devices is positioned on the substrate. Abstract: Stirling engine which may be used as a heat pump, which consists of a hot half and a cold half. Both halves are connected by two lines which constitute a counterflow heat exahnger or in which a counterflow heat exchanger is mounted. Moreover, a mutual shaft, to which in the hot half a large and a small piston are mounted and to which in the cold half a large and a small piston are mounted, connects both parts. For every up or down going movement of the shaft, a complete Stirling cycle is performed. If desired, the shaft may be replaced by a hydraulic interconnection.

Abstract: An apparatus for two degree of freedom positioning a moveable structure relative to a support structure is provided. The apparatus includes a moveable structure, a support structure, a compliant support disposed between the moveable structure and the support structure. The compliant support biases the moveable structure away from the support structure.
