摘要: A method for forming foamed plastic articles which includes the steps of closing a mold; prepressurizing the mold cavity with gas to prevent premature diffusion of blowing gas from the material injected into the cavity; injecting a short shot of molten synthetic resin material containing a blowing agent into the cavity; venting a portion of the prepressurization gas during the injection step; and venting the remaining prepressurization gas from the mold cavity to a vacuum chamber means to allow expansion of the injected foamable resin material within the mold cavity, the vacuum drawing the resin material throughout the mold cavity. In addition, the vacuum chamber is coupled to the mold cavity through plural spaced passageways so that the vacuum is drawn at various locations throughout the cavity to thereby enhance the complete filling of the cavity with the injected material as it expands. The mold is vented following the injection step automatically at the expiration of a predetermined time following the closing of a nozzle of the injection apparatus. A mold for carrying out the process includes improved gas flow means for delivering gas to and venting gas from the mold cavity. The mold also includes improved sealing means for sealing the mold to maintain it in a pressurized state as desired.

摘要: A method and apparatus for making a twin-wall internally corrugated plastic structural part provided with a smooth, dense, solid, thin walled, non-cellular skin comprising injecting a thermoplastic or resin material into a pair of closed mold members which define a sealed cavity. A small amount of plastic material is initially injected into the cavity with the material impinging upon and being dispersed over the mold members thereby forming a generally continuous thin skin substantially the mold surfaces. Thereafter, successively and intermittently injecting an inert gas under pressure through one mold member during continued injection of the plastic material into the cavity thereby pressurizing the skin against the walls of the mold cavity and progressively commingling the inert gas under pressure and the inwardly flowing plastic material as both enter the cavity until the cavity is filled with an internal corrugated body integral with and bonded to the skin. Further steps include cooling the twin-wall internally corrugated structural part to permit the same to solidify as an integral unit and venting the mold cavity to atmosphere to relieve pressure from the corrugated plastic structural part. The intermittent injection of the inert gas introduces minute amounts of pressurized gas into the continuously injected plastic material.

摘要: Mould assembly for foam moulding of plastic materials, which comprises stationary and movable dies and an auxiliary die plate device between the stationary and movable dies. A gas passage is formed for introducing pressurized inert gas into the mould cavity. The auxiliary die device comprises separated inner and outer auxiliary dies both being spring biased toward the stationary die. O-ring seals are disposed between the opposite surfaces of the outer auxiliary die and the stationary and movable dies.

摘要: This invention relates to an improved injection foam molding method in which a foamable mixture of molten synthetic polymer resin and a chemical blowing agent in unfoamed condition is injected into a gas-pressurized expandable mold having a mold section movable for expanding the mold cavity to a position in which the surface of that section is in registry to the surface of another mold section, in which process the mold is filled under conditions resisting foaming of the material prior to filling of the mold and a novel controlled time sequence effective to form a fine mold crease line is employed in releasing the gas pressure and expanding the mold to allow foaming of the mixture into conformity with the mold surface.

摘要: A method of injection molding foamed articles wherein, after the mold is closed and while the mold is held closed, a gas counterpressure is generated within the mold cavity against which a portion of the foamable resin is injected under a pressure which prevents foaming. Thereafter, a shape-forming element adapted to be retracted to be flush with a wall of the mold cavity in the final phase thereof, is advanced to force the nonfoamed material, still against the gas counterpressure, into the remainder of the cavity. After a skin has formed, on the mass within the mold cavity the latter element is retracted to permit foaming, preferably after foaming has been initiated by allowing a portion of the foamable mass to recede into the injection cylinder during the inception of the foaming process.

摘要: THIS DISCLOSURE IS DIRECTED TO A METHOD FOR INJECTION MOLDING. PREMATURE FOAMING AND SETTING OF FOAMABLE MOLDING MATERIALS IS PREVENTED BY ACCOMPLISHING THE INJECTION OF THE FOAMABLE MOLDING MATERIAL INTO A MOLD CAVITY HAVING A GASEOUS SUBSTANCE THEREIN AT A PRESSURE IN EXCESS OF THAT REQUIRED TO PREVENT FOAMING OF THE MOLDING MATERIAL. PLANNED WASTAGE OF MOLDING MATERIAL IS MINIMIZED BY PROVIDING PISTIONS IN THE RUNNERS WHICH CARRY THE MOLDING MATERIALS TO THE MOLD, WHICH PISTONS FORCE EXCESS MOLDING MATERIAL AWAY FROM THE MOLD SO AS TO RECOMPRESS AND RECOVER THE MATERIAL, THEREBY TO BE USED IN THE NEXT SUBSEQUENT MOLDING CYCLE.
