Illustrative methods include regioselectively preparing a monomer that includes an enantiopure or enantioenriched chiral side group, and then reacting these monomers to produce a polymer that comprises a regioregular conjugated main chain section having an enantiopure or enantioenriched chiral side chains. In illustrative embodiments of the invention, the regioregular conjugated main chain section can contain a repeat unit that includes a dithiophene and a pyridine.

Abstract:
Ultra-narrow bandgap Non Fullerene Acceptors (NFAs) comprising an A-D-A′-D-A structure or an A-D-A′-D′-A′-D-A structure were designed, synthesized, and characterized (where A, A′ are organic acceptor moieties and D and D′ are organic donor moieties). Exemplary NFA materials have narrow bandgap (0.86 eV-0.99 eV). Photovoltaic devices and Near Infrared photodetector devices based on these compositions above were synthesized with controlled amounts of solvents and additives. A photodetector having a specific detectivity of 2.41×1012 Jones (D*) at a wavelength of 1040 nm was achieved.

Light harvesting luminescent multichromophores that are configured upon excitation to transfer energy to, and amplify the emission from, an acceptor signaling chromophore in energy-receiving proximity therewith are provided. Also provided are compositions for labelling a target. The labelling composition may include a donor light harvesting multichromophore and an acceptor signaling chromophore in energy-receiving proximity to the donor light harvesting multichromophore. Also provided is an aqueous composition for labelling a target, including: a donor light harvesting multichromophore; an acceptor signaling chromophore in energy-receiving proximity therewith; and a sensor biomolecule. Methods for using the subject compositions are also provided.
Abstract:
Methods, compositions and articles of manufacture for assaying a sample for a target polynucleotide are provided. A sample suspected of containing the target polynucleotide is contacted with a polycationic multichromophore and a sensor polynucleotide complementary to the target polynucleotide. The sensor polynucleotide comprises a signaling chromophore to receive energy from the excited multichromophore and increase emission in the presence of the target polynucleotide. The methods can be used in multiplex form. Kits comprising reagents for performing such methods are also provided.
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes additives that attenuate a specific transport channel in ambipolar semiconductors to achieve unipolar characteristics. Carrier selective traps are included in the ambipolar semiconductors and are chosen on the basis of energetic preferences for holes or electrons and the relative positions of the molecular orbital energies of host polymer and the dopants. In one embodiment, a composition of matter useful as a current transport region in an organic semiconductor device comprises a semiconducting polymer; and means for accepting holes (e.g., a hole trapping compound) injected into the current transport region so as to impede conduction of the holes in the semiconducting polymer. This simple solution-processable method can improve the on and off current ratios (ION/IOFF) of OFETs by up to three orders of magnitude. Moreover, the treatment yields tailored blends that can be used to fabricate complementary inverters with excellent gain and low-power characteristics.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention include methods and materials for preparing organic semiconducting layers, for example one used in an organic semiconductor device including a substrate with a nanostructured surface and an organic semiconductor film overlying the nanostructured surface. The semiconductor film is typically formed from macroscopically ordered polymer fibers made from selected conjugate polymer compounds. Such polymer fibers synthesized from selected conjugated polymer compounds and directionally aligned in organic semiconductor devices can provide these devices improved functional properties, including for example, unexpectedly high field effect saturation mobilities.

Abstract:
Methods and materials for the detection of melamine in test samples such as foodstuffs are described. Embodiments of the invention comprise combining a test sample suspected of containing melamine with a particle that produces a colorimetric and/or turbidimetric signal that is dependent upon the concentration of melamine in the test sample. In certain embodiments of the invention, the particles and test sample are combined together with a chemical compound selected to induce the aggregation melamine in a manner that amplifies the colorimetric and/or turbidimetric signal of the assay. In some embodiments of the invention, the aggregation inducing agent is not physically coupled to the particles used in the assays. In other embodiments of the invention, the aggregation inducing agent is physically coupled to the particles used in these assays.
Abstract:
Disclosed are multichromophores, and methods, articles and compositions employing them. Disclosed are methods, articles and compositions for the detection and analysis of biomolecules in a sample. Provided assays include those determining the presence of a target biomolecule in a sample or its relative amount, or the assays may be quantitative or semi-quantitative. The methods can be performed on a substrate or in an array format on a substrate. Disclosed are detection assays employing sensor biomolecules that do not comprise a fluorophore that can exchange energy with the cationic multichromophore. Disclosed are biological assays in which energy is transferred between one or more of the multichromophore, a label on the target biomolecule, a label on the sensor biomolecule, and/or a fluorescent dye specific for a polynucleotide, in all permutations.
