Abstract: A coding and modulation apparatus and method are presented. The apparatus comprises an encoder that encodes input data into cell words, and a modulator that modulates said cell words into constellation values of a non-uniform constellation. The modulator is configured to use, based on the total number M of constellation points of the constellation and the code rate, a non-uniform constellation from one or several groups of constellations each comprising one or more constellations.

Abstract: Processing and transmitting transmission frames. A method for processing a transmission frame, includes receiving a transmission frame including a bootstrap portion, a preamble portion, and a payload portion. The boot strap portion of the received transmission frame is processed, by processing circuitry of a reception apparatus, to extract preamble structure information from one of four bootstrap symbols included in the bootstrap portion. The preamble portion of the transmission frame is decoded, by the processing circuitry, based on the extracted preamble structure information. A first one of the four bootstrap symbols is used for synchronization and a last one of the four bootstrap symbols in the bootstrap portion includes the preamble structure information. Further, the preamble structure information indicates a structure of one or more preamble symbols in the preamble portion that follows the last symbol.

Abstract: A MIMO receiving system includes a MIMO antenna apparatus that receives a MIMO transmission signal including at least two MIMO transmission signal streams, wherein the MIMO transmission signal includes one or more MIMO transmission channels and wherein a MIMO transmission channel carrying one or more services includes two MIMO receive signal components covering a same frequency channel and being included in different transmission signal streams. A MIMO preprocessing apparatus preprocesses the MIMO transmission signal and outputs a multiplex signal. One or more receiving apparatus receive the multiplex signal from the output signal path to use a service contained in the single multiplex signal and output a service data stream.

A broadband request unit requests, if demodulation of a channel symbol and/or decoding of a codeword is erroneous or likely to fail, a required amount of redundancy data via a broadband system, that is received by a broadband receiver via said broadband system. Said demodulator and/or said decoder is configured to use said redundancy data for demodulation and decoding, respectively.
